NBA Las Vegas Summer League 2013: Spurs roster filled with familiar faces

Names like Cory Joseph, Nando De Colo and Aron Baynes highlight the Spurs Summer League roster; assistant coach Ime Udoka will serve as the squad's head coach.

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

The San Antonio Spurs released their roster for the upcoming Las Vegas Summer League and it includes three members of this year's Western Conference Champions as well as three recent second round draft picks. Cory Joseph will make his second Summer League appearance while Nando De Colo and Aron Baynes will make their first. Additionally, 2013 second round pick Deshaun Thomas, 2012 second round pick Marcus Denmon and 2010 second rounder Ryan Richards will all be in a Spurs uniform when Summer League kicks off later this week.

It's pretty rare to see three members of such as established team on a Summer League roster, but this is a great opportunity for Joseph and De Colo to split time running the offense. Last year, for the first two games at least, Joseph and Kawhi Leonard took turns running the offense, getting both acclimated to increased ball handling duties. It will also be interesting to see if Baynes will be showcased as well, similar to his brief stints playing for the Austin Toros last season. Spurs fans might be most interested in seeing the development of Richards, playing in his second straight Summer League with the team. Richards is coming off a 20 game run with BC Vienna in the Austria where he averaged 16.7 points and 5.4 rebounds a game.

Summer League will also be the debut of Ime Udoka as a head coach. Udoka is coming off his first season as an assistant coach after spending three years in two separate runs on the Spurs roster. Summer League is working a little differently this year. The Spurs will play three games in the first four days in Las Vegas, then there will be a playoff tournament later in the week. Their first game will be Friday night against the Charlotte Bobcats. That game is scheduled for 9 p.m. Central time and will be shown on NBA TV. Game two will be Sunday against the Toronto Raptors at 9:30 p.m. Central time. It won't be shown live but will be broadcast some time during the week on NBA TV. Game three is Monday against the Atlanta Hawks. It's also scheduled for 9 p.m. and will be shown on NBA TV. Check out the full Spurs Summer League roster below.
