Phil's Fantasy Basketball Monday: Boris Diaw, John Henson, Vince Carter and more

Guest columnist Phil Naessens of the Phil Naessens Show shares his Fantasy Basketball Picks for the week ending November 24, 2013

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Greetings fellow Pounders!

Fantasy Basketball owners are heading into Week number four. Rotations are beginning to form, injuries are wreaking havoc with teams and trade rumors abound which means fantasy owners are beginning to make roster moves.

So here we go....

Phil's picks for the week ending November 24, 2013

John Henson: I like Henson and there are plenty of reasons why. He has found a way into coach Larry Drew's rotation and is beginning to receive quality minutes (28.5 mpg) at the PF position. His 11+ PPG, 5.4 RPG and nearly 2 blocks per game make him an interesting option for fantasy owners. The Bucks only play three games this week (Portland, Philadelphia and Charlotte) but that shouldn't deter owners from taking a flyer on this big fella. He's currently owned in 29 % of ESPN leagues and 28% of Yahoo leagues. (Stats)

Vince Carter: I know what you're thinking. Carter is 36 years old and is only a shadow of his former self but this guy can still light it up, as evidenced in his 21 point output last Friday against Miami. He's made 10 threes in his last 4 games and is averaging 2 steals and 2 assists a game as well. Dallas has 4 games this week (Philadelphia, Houston Utah and Denver) and he'll get plenty of opportunities to hoist up some treys against Philly on Monday night (dead last in three pointers allowed) and Houston on Wednesday (29th in the league in treys allowed) as well as Denver on Saturday (15th in opponents 3 point %) making him extremely valuable in deeper leagues. Carter is currently owned in 29% of Yahoo leagues and 11% of ESPN leagues. (Stats)

Jordan Crawford: Crawford has been playing very consistent basketball for the Boston Celtics this season and has found himself on many fantasy owners' radars, and why not? He's putting up numbers straight across the board, making him valuable in both head-to-head and roto leagues. Crawford's been hot lately and has found favor with coach Brad Stevens, so as long as he gets the minutes he's a good guy to have on your roster. Boston plays four games this week (Houston, San Antonio, Indiana, Atlanta) so he'll have plenty of chances to pile up some numbers for you. Crawford is currently owned in 39% of Yahoo leagues and 54% of ESPN leagues. (Stats)

Spurs Fantasy Pick of the Week

This week's Spurs fantasy pick is Boris Diaw. He's had a very consistent season and has been a big part of the Spurs rotation. Diaw averages roughly 24 minutes per game but makes the most of them shooting 56% from the field and 33% from behind the arc. His rebounds per game are decent at nearly 4 per game, scoring is decent at 11.4 per game and he'll even drop a dime or two. The Spurs have games against Boston, Memphis and Cleveland this week so Diaw might be a good option in a deeper league or even in a roto league of 12 teams or more. He's currently owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues and 2.6% of ESPN leagues so he's absolutely available. (Stats)

PtR Fantasy League

Week 3 of the Pounding the Rock Fantasy Basketball League has finished and there were plenty of close matches. Standings after week three are below;

We also saw a big trade between FUNdamentals and Spurs Brasil. FUNdamentals wound up getting Josh Smith for Aaron Afflalo in a straight-up trade. I was so intrigued by this trade that we talked about it on today's show. We also talked about the Indiana Pacers' first defeat at the hands of the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz's first win of the season, against the New Orleans Pelicans. You can tune in with the player below or download it here.

Good luck this week Fantasy Owners!
