Spurs waive Josh Howard, likely sending him to Austin

After signing Josh Howard to a non-guaranteed contract just yesterday afternoon, the Spurs have announced that the small forward has been waived.

The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have waived forward Josh Howard.

Howard was originally drafted 29th overall in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks where he played for seven seasons (2003-10). He has also suited up for the Washington Wizards (2010-11), Utah Jazz (2011-12) and the Minnesota Timberwolves (2012-13).

In 507 career NBA games, the Wake Forest University product has averaged 14.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 30.3 minutes.

As Spurs fans puzzled over Friday's news, J. Gomez posted this prescient post, based off Jeff McDonald's musing over Howard's being destined for a stay with the Austin Toros as a prerequisite to any potential time in the Silver and Black.

Anyone interested in the fate of Howard will have to stay tuned, and £ers who were concerned about the 15th spot being taken up by a player who's averaged less than 27 games per season over the last five year, need worry no longer.
