Game Preview: San Antonio Spurs @ Sacramento Kings

Yuck! Someone please step up and get this horrible Clipper taste out of my mouth, I am looking at you Tony.

San Antonio Spurs @ Sacramento Kings

Sleep Train Arena
11/9/12, 9:00pm Spurs Time

So the Clippers dominated the Spurs Tuesday night. Fred Silva did a great recap.

Onto the next game. San Antonio Spurs will be journeying to Sacramento to take on the Kings at 9pm Spurs time. San Antonio started the season on a 4 game tear. Then they ran into the Clippers in LA where they were defeated, completely. This game is will be a representation of how the Spurs bounce back after an ugly loss. Since this team is almost the same as last season's, it is fair to take a look at how they rebounded from ugly losses last year. After losing by 10+ points (6 games), the 2011-2012 Spurs won the game following 100% of the time. A good record like that should be continued into this season as well.

Kings are undefeated (2-0) at home this season and have done it with defense. Their defense is credible; they are 1st in 3-point defense (.242), 5th in field goal defense (.411), and 8th in steals per game (9.4). They are led by their 6'11 and 270 pound center, DeMarcus Cousins. This is his team and if you don't think so, he may punch you in the face Cousins is a big boy with fire in his belly and some skill with the b-ball. He leads his team in points and rebounds and the offense flows through him. Expect a pounding inside as the Kings will find a way to the rim. Although not known for keeping his cool or a high BBall IQ, Cousins is capable of running folks over.

So what can the Spurs do against this paint pounding juggernaut? First would be to tie or surpass the NBA record for steals by one player in a game with 11 by Larry Kenon of the San Antonio Spurs against the Kansas City Kings. With invoking Kawhi's inner Kenon aside, the Spurs will challenge the King's interior squad. Why? Because after the shellacking by the Clippers big men, it would be logical to see a Spurs team rebound from that defeat and look to smother the Kings in an anaconda like grip of defense.

Speaking of rebounds, this ugly specter raises its head once again. My personal concern once again for this 2012-2012 Spurs team is rebounding. This team had been out rebounded by 10+ differential in 3 out of their 5 games. They have not won a rebounding battle all year. Even worse, the last game against the Clippers, the Spurs were outrebounded 16-3 during the 3rd quarter. This wasn't just that the Clippers were shooting at a lights out rate (71%) it was also horrible Spurs defensive rebound rate at 29%.

Take that 29% and add 12% more and you'll get Tony Parker's shooting percentage, which is by the way, the worst of the five starters. It doesn't help that Tony has morphed into a mid-range and three point shooter. Last game he got into the paint two times. Either the Clippers D is much more fearsome than most of us recall or Tony decided to have a lazy game. Tack on 4 turnovers to go with 6 assists and only 2 shots in the paint and you have a very un-Tony Parker playing the role as Tony Parker.

So, will the Spurs bounce back? Emotionally as a Spurs fan I can't help but say not only yes but Hell Yes. Too bad I have a lingering doubt in the back of my head that this bounce back won't be as amazing as I want it to be. The Kings are tough at home and they rebound well. The Spurs are coming off an embarrassing loss and hopefully have worked out a kink or two and maybe, just maybe the real Tony Parker will show up.

Game Prediction: Well that last game was embarrassing. Pride says Spurs by 15, Logic says Spurs by 6, Vegas says Spurs by 5.

Spurs are an international team:

As always Tony must dominate Fisher, and NBA league pass is recommended for those who are willing to pony up the cash. Almost every Spurs game will be broadcast there, which is especially helpful for those of us who aren't in the San Antonio area. Please don't post links to illegal game feeds in the game thread. Links to illegal feeds are not permitted on SBNation, but you can probably find them out there on the internets if you're resourceful and desperate.
