Y! Rumors | Might the Blazers ask Roy to retire?

The Portland Trail Blazers are trying to figure out what to do with 26-year-old guard Brandon Roy(notes) and the Oregonian reports that asking him to retire is one of the options the team is discussing. The 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Star, who has had continual trouble with his knees, told the Oregonian at the end of the season that "he'd spend the summer healing, getting stronger and resting his knees" as well as doing "platelet-rich plasma therapy." That doesn't sound like a guy who wants to retire, does it? Roy has four years and nearly $70 million left on his contract. The team could also release him via the league's Amnesty Clause, which would mean the Blazers would still owe him the same amount, but it wouldn't cost them anything against the luxury tax.
