Preseason Game Thread #2: Miami Heat @ San Antonio Spurs

Tonight, the silver and black face off against the most hyped NBA team of all time. Training camp, a couple of preseason games, and a Dwyane Wade hamstring injury have done little to slow down the hype machine. Can the Spurs slow them down? Not likely, mainly because they aren't trying to win preseason games - see the minutes distribution from the last game for proof of this. Even if they did try, I'm not sure they'd have what it takes at this point, especially since the Spurs have a key injury of their own (a certain Argentine big man).

But let's pay attention to it anyway, shall we?

Preview after the jump. And don't forget to visit our frenemies over at Peninsula is Mightier.

Key Matchups

Power Forward: As far as I can tell, Tiago Splitter has not been cleared to play, but DeJuan Blair is pumped up. Can The Beast hold his own against one of the colluders, who also happens to be one of the top big men in the league? I don't know, but it should be fun to watch.

Bench Play: This is highlighted mainly because I want to see George bounce back from that awful shooting night he had against Houston on Thursday. And I'm also hoping our 2010 draftee gets some more burn tonight, so we can see him settle down a little bit and show what he can do.

Key to the Game

Luck: Maybe they're tired after a tough game against the Thunder last night?

Prediction

Lebron is taking this way too seriously:

``I'm not one of those guys that likes to waste opportunities, because it might be my last -- knock on wood,'' James said. ``If coach gives me 20 minutes, it's going to be the hardest 20 minutes that I've got. That's just how I always approach the game.''

You know what's a good way to make it your last opportunity? Playing a preseason contest with more fire than you showed against the Celtics in the playoffs last year. Anyway, the Heat will win, because the Spurs don't give a crap about preseason.

Watching/Listening to the Game

Please don't post any illegal feed links here. We might have some audio links closer to game time if you want to listen to the game. If that's not working, or if you're looking for a video feed in your area, email us at poundingtherockmail@yahoo.com (IMPORTANT: please include your PtR username in the email). This game is not being televised by local media in SA or Miami, however, so it's very doubtful there will be any video feeds.

A Heat game not being televised? How could David Stern let this happen?

A Look Ahead

On Tuesday, the Spurs are playing the Clippers in Mexico City. That game will be televised on NBA TV, so it should be more fun to follow than this one. After that, they play against the Cavs in Pittsburgh on Thursday, which should be a lot of fun for DeJuan Blair. Finally, one week from tonight, the Spurs will face off with Splitter's old team, Caja Laboral. Hopefully, he'll be able to play by then, because I'm sure he looks forward to playing against his friends.
