Preseason Game Thread #3: Spurs @ Clippers

I know what you're thinking. "We couldn't find a better opponent than the Clippers?" And to that I say, it's preseason, and the Clips might just be better than you think. Remember that guy they drafted last year? He's, ummm, pretty good. OK, really good.

Meanwhile, the Spurs' deep bench beat the cHeat's deep bench the other night. It didn't mean anything, but it was still nice to see the way they pulled together in the second half to win. So what happens tonight, against an improved Clippers squad?

Let's watch (yes, watch) this time to find out.

Key Matchups

Power Forward: According to the Express-News, Tiago Splitter won't be playing during the Spurs' two-game road trip to Mexico City and Pittsburgh. Hopefully he'll be good to go against his former teammates from Caja Laboral on Saturday, though. In the interim, we get to see Blake vs. Blair, part two (last preseason, Blake got the better of DeJuan before his season-ending injury). Hopefully, DeJuan can hold his own against the only better big man from the 2009 draft class.

Bench Play: Anderson played well the other night, and I hope we can continue to see more of the same from him. Meanwhile, George Hill has yet to look like himself during preseason, so here's to him perhaps getting out of his funk tonight. The Clips' newest draftee (Aminu) has looked decent in preseason so far, and I'm curious to see what he does against our D.

Key to the Game

Remember that it's preseason: No injuries would be great, thanks.

Prediction

The Spurs' depth was on full display saturday, and even though the Clips have several promising youngsters, it's probably not enough to contend with everything we can throw at them.

A Look Ahead

This Thursday, the Spurs play against the Cavs in Pittsburgh on Thursday, which should be a lot of fun for DeJuan Blair. And on Saturday, the Spurs will face off with Splitter's old team, Caja Laboral back in San Antonio.
