Morning Reading: The Celtics Are In Town

Celts_medium

Just thought a quick run-down of people weighing in on KG's return would be useful in case you missed any. It'll be nice to actually see him play this time, lucky for us he didn't get a two game suspension for his dust-up with Bogut. <conspiracy theory alert>But I suppose Stern couldn't let that happen.</alert>

My favorite quote in the whole sh'bang is from the Boston Globe story:

When told his Celtics jersey was still a hot seller in Minneapolis, Garnett chuckled before saying, "I can't even comment on that. I guess it's a compliment."

You're damn right it's a compliment. For all his talk about the importance of loyalty, and his unhappieness with how much he felt Taylor and McHale showed him, you'd think he'd mention appreciating the fan loyalty exhibited in the merchandise department.

Yeah, I'm still a little bitter.

Notice the difference with previous GameFlows in the 4th Quarter: the score difference doesn't cross toward Philly at all! We actually closed one out!

Pekovic Update (11/19)

Wolves 2nd Round draft pick Nikola Pekovic seems to be fitting in well with his new club, 2007 Euroleague champs Panathinaikos, after signing a three-year, $5 - 5.7 million deal.

Panathinaikos is 3-1 in Euroleague action with six more games to go. Pekovic has only had one start:

MPG FG% FT% PPG OREB DREB RPG APG SPG BPG FPG
18.7 56.3% 65.4% 13.3 1.3 1.3 2.5 1.0 0.3 1.3 3.0

After six Greek A-1 League games the squad is in (tied for?) 4th place with 5 wins (the season is 26 games long and goes until April 09). Pekovic is 10th in scoring and doing just as well from the field as he is from the line:

MPG FG% FT% PPG OREB DREB RPG APG SPG BPG FPG
16.2 74.2% 75.0% 13.7 1.8 2.3 4.2 0.7 0.2 0.5 4.0

Pekovic's teammates include former NBAers Sarunas Jasikevicius, Vassilis Spanoulis, Antonis Fotsis, and Mike Batiste and former Maryland Terp Drew-Lawrence Nichols.

Lastly, he his MP3 player is apparently full of "Serbian municipal songs." It annoys the locker room, but not so much that they don't miss him at Partizan.

"Minnesota’s probably has had five games similar to that and can’t close the door," [Nuggets Coach George Karl] said. "I’m glad we got the win, but I hope Randy [Wittman] figures out how to get a win and get some confidence back with his team."

GameThread 9: @ Denver

180px-combat_bootstrap_medium

Only thing that really matters tonight: Will the Wolves rebound mentally from the embarrassing loss last night?

Other relevant items:

  • Check out Pickaxe and Roll for all your Denver Nuggets needs.
  • Al Jefferson should be effective tonight. K-Mart's a better help-side and perimeter defender than in the low-post and Nene's better as an active, disruptive defender than bodying up. If the Wolves can get Al the ball down on the low block, he should have a field day unless Nene and K-Mart can effectively double-team him. If they are, then Mike Miller, Rashad McCants and Randy Foye better start hitting shots. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
  • Speaking of our guards, if any of them would like to start playing well on a consistent basis, now is a really good time.
  • Kevin Love has looked a little slowed winded by the speed and frequency of NBA games. That will not bode well for him playing an up-and-down frontcourt like Denver's. He's also been struggling mightily from the field, so his prospects on offense look better down low than on the elbow for the same reasons Al should have a decent night.

Game Time: 7pm Central

Broadcast: KSTC, KFAN

After last night's game I'm not sure who needs a win tonight more, the fans or the players.
