Recently, the Houston Rockets used their amnesty provision on 6' 9" forward Luis Scola. Most of the media has come to the conclusion that the Rockets let Scola go to get themselves closer to Dwight Howard. Whether or not it works, time will only tell

The main advantage [to amnesty] is the ability to go out and spend it again. That's not something we've really had much discussion about, the second part of it. Just in it of itself, it just creates more room and less tax and if you're not going to spend the money again it doesn't make any difference.

For those of you who thought the Blazers would be amnestying Roy and thought he'd be a good fit for the Wolves. For all we know, though, they still will. This could be just talk, though I don't know what the Blazers' motivation would be behind pretending they're not going to cut Roy when they're actually going to cut Roy.

From Alex Kennedy of HOOPSWORLD: "League sources say that Roy may consider retirement if the Blazers decide to waive him. Roy has been weighing his options and asking a number of people if he would still be able to collect his amnesty money if he chooses to retire. The 27-year-old has had arthroscopic surgery on both of his knees and played in just 47 games last season."
