Game Thread #76 - at Utah

A big road game.  I expect a playoff atmosphere from the crowd and playoff intensity from the teams.  I haven't been following the Jazz much lately so I don't really have an idea of how they are playing and I don't really care.  When we play well, we should beat anybody.

Spurs:  112
Hornblowers:  105

Findog on FIRE!!

Re: Game Thread #76 - at Utah
Hate to start this like this, but I have to confess...

Spurs are losing tonight.  And it's all on me.  I promised in the losing streak to boycott Mexican food for three weeks (because of those damn 'Los' cursed jerseys), and we haven't lost since.

I completely forgot and was craving yesterday when I accidentally had huevos rancheros.  Didn't even think about it.  I had meant a real Mexican meal at a Mexican place, but it doesn't matter.  Even though I had them at a coffee shop in Colorado, still technically Mexican food.  I'm sorry, all, I really am.  I was sick all night last night.  I hope I'm wrong but the power is unblemished and faithful.

Just a minor speedbump though; the great play continues onward and it won't derail us.

I won't let you down again.  Forgive me, Manu your holiness...

I dunno if this helps, but it's been my experience that mexican food anywhere north of Texas is not really mexican food

Sorry, mate, but a coffee shop just doesn't count [though the indiscretion could mean that the game will go to overtime...].

Re: Game Thread #76 - at Utah
well last year i noticed that the spurs seemed to lose all the games i watched, so I decided to stop watching and they went on a 13 game win streak.  Now this year I thought I would try it again, after the bad patch and now they're on an 8 game win streak.  I'm not allowed to look at a box score  or know anything about the game while it's on.  I have a friend who calls and tells me when the game is over and gives me a run down.

Re: Game Thread #76 - at Utah
I'm believing in the power of your karma over my karma.  My karma mostly comes into play in the playoffs, while your's is clearly geared towards the season.  I trust you and will believe in a victory tonight.  It's too late to change my prediction, but WHEN we do win, it'll likely be 92-79.  Thanks, bduran.

Re: Game Thread #76 - at Utah
Tonight's game is a big test for the Spurs. I think if they win at Utah the rest of the league will be on notice that the Spurs are heading full steam into the playoffs. It would be their 9th win in a row and a win against a playoff team that rarely loses at home.

It will take a big game from Manu. He averages over 23 a game in road wins. So if Manu is on tonight, the Spurs win. If he plays like  he did in Detroit and New Orleans, they lose.

Re: Game Thread #76 - at Utah
What are the Jazz playing for tonight, other than pride? I think they are comfortably ahead of Denver in their division and so their locked in at the 4th seed. San Antonio has more to play for and we are just finally rounding into shape. Spurs win big.

Re: Game Thread #76 - at Utah
Utah does have something to play for.  A loss puts them only two games ahead of Denver.  They are also playing for home court in the first round.  Winning the division only makes them the 4-seed.  It doesn't mean they get home court.  As it stands now, the Jazz would start the first round at Phoenix.

7:00 PM SA - 9:00 PM ARG

   52-23 ............................................. 45-28

Streak:
     8 W .................................................. 1 W

Home record:
    32-6 ................................................ 34-4

Road record:
    20-17 ............................................... 16-22

Last 10:
     8-2 .................................................. 7-3

----------------------------------------------

(Sort of) Interesting facts:

► Previous games: These two teams have met twice this season.
   → Dec/11/07 - UT 98 | SA 104 - @ San Antonio.
   → Jan/28/Ene/08 - UT 97 | SA 91 - @ Utah.

► After a stormy first half of the season in which pundits claimed the Spurs weren't the defensive wizards of yore any more, they have now the third best defense in the points allowed category, holding their opponents to 90.9 ppg. They have kept others team below 100 points in 61 of 75 games.

► The Spurs have a winning streak of 8 games, in which they made 102 ppg and held their opponents to 87.4 ppg. I dub it the "Findog avalanche".

► Our beloved Spurs played 18 games in March, including six back-to-backs, and this is the franchise's record of games and back-to-backs for them. I believe we did pretty well for such an ancient team.

► Duncan and Boozer are tied for the second spot in the most points and rebounds double-doubles list.

► Oberto's 10 rebounds against Golden State mark the first time he has grabbed 10 or more rebounds since February 6th.

► Manu is averaging 33 ppg against the Jazz so far this season. I wonder if we will need him tonight, with Findog and Frenchie doing that thing they do so well lately.

► Next games for the Spurs:
   → @ Utah - Friday 4/Apr - - TODAY
   → @ Portland - Sunday 6/Apr
   → Vs. Phoenix - Wednesday 9/Apr
   → Vs. Seattle - Friday 11/Apr
   → @ Lakers - Sunday 13/Apr
   → @ Sacramento - Monday 14/Apr
   → Vs. Utah - Wednesday 16/Apr

----------------------------------------------

Probable starting lineup:

T. Parker       M. Finley      B. Bowen      T. Duncan     F. Oberto
  P. Guard        S. Guard       S. Forward      P. Forward        Center
  18.6 PPG        10.0 PPG         6.1 PPG         19.5 PPG        4.7 PPG
   3.2 RPG         3.2 RPG         2.8 RPG         11.5 RPG        5.3 RPG
   5.8 APG         1.4 APG         1.1 APG          3.0 APG         1.2 APG

----------------------------------------------

Transmissions:

No NBA League Pass broadcast for this one. ESPN will have it, but you should still find direct feeds from one of the sites below. If that :

ChannelSurfing
Roja Directa
Stooge TV → Old games available
Janeiro Nation → Old games available

For national televised games, Justin TV is always an option. Quality might be poor, though.

(If one of these doesn't work for you, just try another. And if the NBA LP feeds are a no go, remember that there will likely be P2P feeds available for Sopcast or TvAnts users. Beware of the Chinese announcers, though.)

Re: Game Thread #76 - at Utah
wow - did not see this game at all as i was actually traveling to south texas for the week (and two home spurs ganes later).

i stopped in dallas last evening to take in the hockey game with an old friend of mine - and after hearing the score, i was aghast as a bunch of mavs watchers were giving me the business post game in the west end bar scene.   i wasnt causing any trouble until my buddy ratted me out as a spurs fan......nice.

the real reason to relay the dallas story is that i was really taken back by how few banners they have hanging in the rafters.  i had been i nthere before, but never really paid attention to it. i mean, they have won a lot of games right?  they had 3 banners - one for winning the west in 2006 and i think 2 division champ banners (i.e. worthless cloth in the NBA).  this logic was lost on the mav watchers last night however.....

anyway, back to the spurs.  i cant say that i am super surprised with the loss.  but WTF??? 9 points in the 4th??  box score that that our guys were leading by 6 or so after the 1st?  all that equals a 26 point loss?  WTF?  i did see that manu was 2-10 - but geez........

Re: Game Thread #76 - at Utah
Bones, you have to remember that logic is lost on the city of Dallas. Logically, when you let your Canadian point guard leave and get nothing in return... He's not supposed to win consecutive MVP awards. When you're up 13 points and you're 6 minutes away from taking a 3-0 lead in the NBA finals... You're not supposed to fold like a lawn chair. Then the following year, when you win a franchise record 67 games...you're not supposed to bitch out and lose to the #8 seeded Warriors. Logically, it would make sense for city of Dallas to follow the examples of Houston and San Antonio, and create a WNBA team. But everyone here in Dallas already realizes that won't be necessary.

Re: Game Thread #76 - at Utah
I told you.  The mojo never fails.  I'm so freakin angry about my causing this, and again, I apologize.

So from this day forward, and in spite of the fact that I have to be in New Mexico for the next two weeks, the ban is back in place.  Unless I've already screwed the karma by breaking it initially and it holds no more power anyway (which we'll soon see), I'm not touching Mexican food for the rest of the season.  You have my word.

Re: Game Thread #76 - at Utah
Yeah, well now I can start watching games again, so I'm not to disappointed.  Plus, when we have a bad offensive night, I always feel better if it coincides with a bad game from Manu.  That happens sometimes and that's okay.  Much worse when Manu's playing well and you have to think, "is the supporting cast going to be able to contribute down the stretch?".

Re: Game Thread #76 - at Utah
I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but I forgot to wear my Erotic Manu shirt.

I think maybe the combination of mexican food and a non-erotic shirt was too much for karma to overcome.

I will endeavor to wear the shirt religiously until the end of the playoffs.

We're a team on this, bell.  Don't let me and our boys down.  It's up to you and I.

I write this as I sit within site of some of the best Mexican food on the planet in NM, and I'm no where close to being tempted.  My fifth finger's lonliness gives me strength.

On the plus side I had some really good fish tacos and great salsa today. So, if you're ever in SA, Rosario's is the place to go.  Their Fish Veracruz is to die for (dinner only) and the salsa is the food of the gods.

Yeah, doing our part for the thumb...
