Game Thread #80 - @ LA Lakers

This is an important game for the seedings.  A win gives us the lead for the 2 seed.  A loss, well, I'm not thinking about that.  I'm too fired up about this new SB Nation format they are throwing at us for the playoffs.  Hmmmphhh!

Krukow, you greedy slut, this one is yours also.

I don't see how the Spurs can beat one of the best teams in the league on the road without Manu.

I hate saying this but I think it is going to be a blow out loss. We also are in trouble Monday at SAC. The game Wednesday against Utah may end up being for home court advantage in the first round.

Re: Game Thread #80 - @ LA Lakers
Lately we have been holding foes to an average of 13 pts below their season PF average. Lakers currently average 108 a game. This should be a good test. Playing without Manu and holding the Lakers under 95 should be considered a win no matter what the final score is.

Re: Game Thread #80 - @ LA Lakers
i know that the lakers have a great record and all, but i just cant take them seriously when they put a 5 on the floor of farmar, vujacic, turiaf, odom and walton. how can that squad be any good? one of the best benches in the league?

Re: Game Thread #80 - @ LA Lakers
Wouldn't every single one of those guys play serious minutes for the Spurs?  Assuming, of course, Pop didn't have his head up his ass.

Re: Game Thread #80 - @ LA Lakers
farmar doesnt play any D either.  odom? no way.  walton - YES.  why didnt we draft this guy or a guy like him?  am i missing something or would he be a perfect for the spurs? heady player, good passer, hustles and plays so very low to the ground.

i kind of think of turiaf being on par with fab-o.  a little more athletic skills, but not nearly as crafty and not as good of a defender.

vujacic (or whatever) and radmanovich? geez.  those guys drawing checks makes we want to try out for somebody.

Yeah, it's not a beat down.... but the second half awaits and we haven't exactly been clutch in those halves lately.  I'm content now, but could easily imagine a 19-2 LA run to start the 3rd.  Tony and Findog can't keep hitting shots, right?

Re: Game Thread #80 - @ LA Lakers
Yeah, well, since they aired the game for once, I knew that we weren't getting this one. The local TV channel is worse than Sgtin's Mexican food.

Oh, and Manu was out, too. Guess that didn't help.

Seriously, guys, don't give up just yet. Up to today we shared the best record in this crazy conference, and we had our share of injuries through the season.

NO is 6-4 in the last 10, so I bet their fans are panicking in their own blogs, too. Even with today's victory, we're 7-3 in the last 10, just like the Lakers. Houston is 7-3, and the scary Jazz are 8-2, but everybody else in this race is 6-4. Maybe that's not as meaningful as I'm making it to be, but I'm just saying that other fans are probably doubting their teams at every step of the way.

Me, I had little hope of winning this game. I just want Manu back for the next game, and I want us to beat Utah in the final game of the regular season.  We'll see about those second half collapses in the playoffs. In my experience, playoffs have rules of their own, to a point.

Now I'm going to lay back and watch the Rockets lose some momentum to the desperate Nuggets. It could be fun. And help us some.

Re: Game Thread #80 - @ LA Lakers
I am already looking at contracts for next year.

Matt Bonner is on the hook for the next two years at $3M. Yikes! I like the Rocket, but come on.

JV is back for another season at $1M. Want to know why JV is on the Spurs? A bargain price, but the talent to match.

Timmeh, Wee French, Sickness and Mr Potato Head locked up for several years. Nice core and a great job by the Buford keeping these dudes on the hook.

Bones back for next year. One more out of Bones, that is good thing. $1.2M for all he brings on and off the court? I will take that. Money well paid, provided he can stay healthy.

Ime back for $1M. A good deal. He could pull down more else where.

Mahi Mahi is on the books for the next four years? Payments balloon up to $3M? WTF? I hope there is some contract voodoo I missing here. What are we paying him in Monopoly money? Buford T. couldn't have dropped the ball on this did he?

The list of free agents is fairly short.

Kurt, makes $8M. A pretty heavy price for an old guy with no hops. I say, look for younger legs.

Horry. Has to ride into the sunset.

Fin. Thanks for all you have done, but you got to go bro.

Fab. Re-sign this boy fast.

The midget. Oh, he is so gone.

My wish list is height, length, hops and young legs. But, Pop apparently is just going to slap together another aging team filled with cast offs and bargains. Troy Hudson still out there? Muggsy Boges available? Spud Webb sightings? Maybe bring back old man river T. Port?

If we here Pop keep talking small ball, then that means the shoe is dropping again. The Spurs org is just saving cost and surrounding Pop with old guys that pose no threat to his authority.

Have a bad knee? Over 35? Your backed pretty much given out? Hey, give Pop a call, he might be interested for a super saver fare.

resign fab fast? dunno if thats the best idea, hes 33, and delivered 0 points and 3 rebounds in this game. i kinda hope we lose the rest of our regular season games. I definitly do not wanna see us against the suns in round one, the rockets on the other hand wouldn't be a problem.

Matthew's prediction was spooky. He's like a God.

My thoughts on the game: I was shocked shocked that Tony had such a quiet second half after that monster first half. That doesn't sound like the superduperNOWstud point guard that I know and adore.

with manu out, they just amped up the focus on frenchy.  same thing that phoenix did earlier in the week and utah before them.

guys were just helping out on D and leaving it up to one of our jump shooters to beat them.  not such a good idea when #20 is on the floor, but otherwise it is the blueprint for knocking off the champs.
