Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

New Spur # 1 -- Tiago Splitter

Plusses:

  1.  Brazilian.  Check another country off the list.
  2.  7'-0"
  3.  22 years old.
  4.  Named Tiago.  That's fun.
  5.  Teammates with Scola.  Maybe the Spurs can get a two for one deal on their buyouts?
  6.  Spurs can't sign him this year, which will help keep them below luxury tax levels.
Minusus:
  1.  Brazilian.  Manu and Oberto might shiv him.  Just sayin'.
  2.  Doesn't even have a buyout from Tau Ceramica until next summer.
  3.  Cannot replace Jacque Vaughn.
  4.  Occasionally looks like this while on the court:

Exactly.  Tiago is a name you can chant.  You can't freaking chant "Kevin" or "Durant."

Re: New Spur # 1 -- Tiago Splitter
Some of those highlights are of him blowing 10 foot shots and getting scored on by dudes with basic post moves.  He looks like a slightly more physical and aggressive Rasho.

I could see Tiago and Oberto being a nice tandem in the 5.  And if Scola ever decides to come over, our front court would be set for a few years.

Re: New Spur # 1 -- Tiago Splitter
spurs have market cornered on euro-leaguers that cant be signed right away with mahinmi, scola, splitter....and who else am i forgetting? surely there are another one or two guys with the same scenario.

maybe one or more of these guys will actually pan out after next year when the spurs will have plenty of room on their roster and available cap room.

just trying to look at the bright side. hopefully, i am wrong to be underwhelmed by this draft.

Re: New Spur # 1 -- Tiago Splitter
If nothing else, we can always trade scola and splitter's rights for someone at the deadline next year, but I expect to see tiago playing for us.

Re: New Spur # 1 -- Tiago Splitter
Surely, the Spurs are going to make another move to get another backup PG. Jacque is a great dude and he plays hard, but there isn't any way in Hades we can go with him next year as the 2nd string PG. It can't happen right? Right? Somebody please give me some reassurance or this case some assurance that it won't happen.

Re: New Spur # 1 -- Tiago Splitter
I hate this draft.  I'm sick of taking Euro's that have great potential that we can't even bring to the U.S.  Haven't we done this enough?  I'd rather have gambled on the stat geeks and taken Fazekas.  If he's a bust (and do busts exist this late in the draft?) at least he's a bust we can see.  Of course, maybe all of this overseas mojo is why we are so freakin' awesome.
