Four for Four!
In my past I made the mistake of believing the good things in life only came at a price. I believed Dostoyevsky's portrayal of suffering as an experience to be valued. And though I still understand the notion of valuing ones own hard work, determination and perseverance, I am a different person now.
The Spurs had an easier road through the playoffs this year compared to previous championship seasons. They were blessed with few injuries and had the good fortune of watching their biggest obstacle getting bounced in the first round. Despite all this I agree with Tim:
As a fan my reason is simple: I LOVE this team.
I don't care if the fans of every other team hate them. I don't care if they are labeled as dirty, ugly, boring, thugs or floppers. I don't care if they fail to fit some arbitrary definition of a dynasty. The media, the fans, the rest of the NBA players and coaches can all piss the hell off.
Because I love this team, we love this team, and we're the champs. Four for four!

(Express-News / Edward A. Ornelas)
Why do I love this team?
Well, for starters, I love the fact that the players actually seem to genuinely like each other. When's the last time you even heard a rumor about two Spurs not getting along?
I love that the Spurs ended the season winning ten of their last eleven. I love that they swept the clearly inferior team from the clearly inferior conference and never once looked worried, rattled or even phased.
I love that Popovich didn't say one thing during the trophy presentation. He doesn't care because it's simply not about that for him.
I love that Michael Finley got the ring he deserves. I know I threw him under the bus towards the end of the season, but I never disliked the man. He always played hard and within the system. He never complained and was always quick to praise his teammates and the Spurs organization. His play definitely improved at the end of the season, peaking with his ridiculous 8 threes and 26 points in the close-out game against the Nuggets. We won't forget that Fin. Nor will we forget you holding the championship game ball and saying "I might just put it in the bed
between me and my wife."

I love that Bruce Bowen held Lebron James to 32-90 in the Finals. 32-90. And he did it while playing over 40 minutes a game, committing a total of only 7 fouls and never once giving anyone any reason to question the cleanliness of his play.

(AP Photo / Amy Sancetta)
I love that Fabricio Oberto came up with multiple big plays in the fourth quarter. I love that I got the feeling he had been there before. I love that a 32 year old Argentinian with minimal NBA-level basketball skills can mesh so well with a championship team.

(AP Photo / Eric Gay)
I love that Jacque Vaughn didn't manage to screw this up for us. Just kidding Jacque. You were prepared to do your part every night and brought ceaseless energy. God. I'm sounding like Mark Jackson.
I love that Manu Ginobili came back after a miserable game 3 performance and took it to the Cavs the entire fourth quarter, scoring 14 of the Spurs 23 points. I love that he jumped past a pump-faking Damon Jones with 8 seconds to play and up six, and instead of letting him take a wide open three he contested the shot from behind, getting all ball but getting called for a foul. I loved the look on Pop's face. I love that Pop understands that you just have to let Manu be Manu. He doesn't ever give in.

(AP Photo / Eric Gay)
I love that Tim shot the ball horribly but still finished +6 for the game. That's Tim Duncan in a nutshell. He's like an iceberg: the most impressive part of his game is missed by most fans who don't look deeper. Holy crap. Am I a freaking genius or what? He's The Iceberg from now on.

(AP Photo / Eric Gay)
I love that Tony Parker convinced me, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he was the rightful winner of the MVP award. I love that the man absolutely torched Cleveland for three quarters and then selflessly gave the ball up in the fourth, when the Cavs were dumb enough to put Damon Jones on Manu. I love that he shot 57% for the series and even pulled down 5 boards a game. And I especially loved that move in the second quarter when he faked the crossover on Gibson and nearly sending the poor rook sprawling. I love that I giggled like a school when that happened. I love that when he was being presented the MVP award you could see his fiance Eva crying and taking pictures. I love that they seem to really love each other. For all the talk about beautiful a couple they are, and for all the talk about how efficient a team the Spurs are, people seem to be missing out on what's important: the love.

(AP Photo / Eric Gay)
It's about the love people.
And winning championships. Four of them, to be exact.

Re: Four for Four!
I loved how Manu showed the World how clutch he is! ANd I loved how he didn't even flop once in the series....Sad though that most morons still consider him a flopper!
I loved how Tony proved me wrong and deserved the Mvp.
I love how this team is poised enough for a repeat.
I love how are big 3 is by the far the best big 3 in the NBA!
I love how the Spurs are always going to have a chance because of their defense...and because of our big 3.
I love how Finley finally got his wrong!
I love the way Horry played in the playoffs....I don't care if he never shows up in the regular season because he can always be counted on in the playoffs!
I love the way Manu and Oberto play together..and how unselfish Oberto is when he is out on the floor.
I just love the Spurs...win or lose...especially when they win.
It's been a hell of year...this team proved me wrong... Rudy said it best " you can never underestimate the heart of a champion" And the Spurs are Champions once again!

assassinated!!!!
and game 4....it wasnt just scoring, he picked james' pocket, snared nearly all clutch 4th qtr rebounds, twisted up damon jones and sasha pavlovich mutiplie times and threaded the needle on more than one occasion...once to oberto for a lay-up that was a coffin nail at the very least.
i should have named my son after manu instead of just making the boy wear a little #20 jersey.......

Re: Four for Four!
Also, thanks to the PtR crew for an amazing year. I found this blog and finally found a group of like-minded sports and Spurs fans. It's great to have a place to bitch, moan, celebrate, and read some well-written, thoughtful prose on the greatest basketball team of the past decade. Thanks, guys. Keep 'em coming!!!

Re: Four for Four!
I love how most of us (myself definitely included) got into a resigned tizzy midway through the years about how old and slow the team was. And then, by the time the playoffs started, they were just damn damn good. To me, that's what sets this year apart -- this was even more of a team than any of the other title teams. And I freaking love it when team trumps individual.
And I'm astounded at the fact that you guys provide such insight and entertainment over the course of the season for free... that's real fandom right there. (I'll dedicate an hour each day this summer to clicking on your ads.) Thanks for the excellent work and for providing this forum. PtR definitely enhanced my experience as a Spurs fan this year.

Re: Four for Four!
Plus one of my favorite things to watch in all of sports is the lost puppy look on Parker's face after he makes a good play and Timmy pats him on his head. I think Tony loves Timmy more than Eva.

congrats Spurs
You guys had the best team this year and I am impressed w/ the way your team plays (except for Bowen's genitals-loving knee).
Great team play by your star and great scouting/GM'ing from the front office. Great coaching and long-term committment to a sytem-even if its boring :)
So, congrats to the Spurs - you deserve it.
But enjoy it b/c next year the Suns will rise again! (cheesy cliche but hey its about 110 outside and our team lost so how much graciousness can you expect?)

DYNASTY!
- Boston 16 rings
- Fakers 12 rings
- Chicago BUllshit 6 rings
NOt to mentioned all these so called experts forget all these teams been around for 50-60 plus years when were only a 33 year old franchise and less than that cos the first 2 years we were the Dallas CHapparralls(spelling) and then first few years in SA we were in the ABA.
We had less chances to win compared to the other teams like Philadelphia and NY. N yet were not a dynasty cos of the asterisk in 99 and cos we never won back to back?
Newsflash LARRY BIRD'S CELTICS won three rings but NONE i REPEAT NONE were back to back. YET his team was a dynasty why not ours with 4?
Plus if u look at our history we made the playoffs more times than most teams with the current streak of 10 or 11 straight years only Detroit is second with 2nd longest post season with 6 years in a row.
FUCK DA MEDIA INDEED!

We Were All Witness....
I love--
- how Coach Pop has a better winning percentage than Phil Jackson.
- how Tim Duncan still doesn't care that he's not flashy.
- that Tony Parker brings a friend to the game that is probably more known in the world than him (Thierry Henry), and yet Henry looks more pumped for Tony.
- that Eva Longoria is still known in San Antonio as "Tony Parker's Fiancee".
- that Finley stuck it to the Mavs by coming to the Spurs.
- that Oberto played like he did for Argentina.
- that Manu was aggressive until the very end, and made his free throws.
- that Bowen is old, dirty, boring, and a champion...again.
- that we were all "witness" to LeBron's unraveling.
- that the only thing flasy about the Spurs is the four championship rings on their fingers.
- the Spurs fans for not rioting after the win.

WHO da FUCK is Thierry Henry?
Also I stand corrected the lakers have 14 rings not 12. N the SPURS have made the playoffs every year in SA excpet 4 times...but in those 29 playoffs out of 33 years they made the finals 4 times = 4 rings that fucking means something in any league to only miss playoffs 4 times n have 4 championships plus add in the fact in those 33 years the first few we were in ABA so really much better than that. Most teams been around for 50-60 plus years n we done more damage than anybody except Bulls, lakers, N of course Celtics.
DYNASTY BABY!

Re: WHO da FUCK is Thierry Henry?
It's Thierry Henry, a French soccer player, a star forward for Arsenal of the EPL, and probably one of the top five players in the world.
Trust me, on a global scale Henry is much more well known (and richer) than Tony Parker. Between he, Eva and Tony, Tony's like the non-famous guy tagging along.
