Maybe We'd Be Better Off Playing Detroit After All

I wonder how well Bruce Bowen slept Thursday night.

(The obligatory "who would you rather play" poll is up.  More finals related content will be added this weekend.)

LEBRON!!!
Damn, yeah Bruce is going to get torched if we have to face Lebron. Luckily for us Greg Popovich is our coach and not Flip Saunders.

If Bruce was tossin' and turnin', he most likely wasn't the only one.  It will certainly take a total team effort, but the Spurs will rise to the challenge.

Re: Maybe We'd Be Better Off Playing
There isn't a human on the planet who can guard LeBron one on one.  But you can say that about 40-50 players in the NBA (including our big three).

Call me crazy, I think Pop is smart enough to figure out the concept of a trap or double team.  He's not going to hang Bruce out to dry unless the game plan is to let LeBron get 50 and shut everyone else down.

And even if single covered the dude, we'd have a bigman (or two) rotating over in the lane.  If they didn't, they'd get benched.  We're not going to give up dunk after dunk to anybody.

Flip Saunders
Yeah, Pop well have the proper game plan for Bron Bron. I am trying to figure out what game Flip Saunders was watching to not run more double teams at Lebron. Good God, in a series where the two coaches have made stupid move after stupid move, it seems like he is trying to take the title. Bill Simmons' blog points this out fairly astutely. Good God, just on our coaching advantage alone, that's 1 win for sure already.

Hell, let's play 'em both.
What we learned from last night is that neither of these teams is cause for concern. It took two overtimes for the Cavs to win even though their only real player went out of his mind, and Detroit lost in double-overtime even though only one Cav even had a pulse.

LeBron hasn't suddenly become MJ (and incidentally, the Spurs would massacre a team that was MJ + Cavs supporting cast). It's just that Larry Brown got replaced by Flip Saunders and Ben Wallace got replaced by Chris Webber, so suddenly the Pistons can't guard anybody anymore.

If we face Bron-Bron, we'll let him get 30-10-10 and we'll win by fifteen (the Amare rules from '05). If we face the Pistons, Tony may as well get Eva to pick out a new decorating scheme for the paint, coz he's gonna live there for four whole games. The 'Stons are gonna realize that interior defense might be a good thing to have against a team with the best post-player in history, the quickest guard in the league, and of course the original MG.

Re: Maybe We'd Be Better Off Playing Detroit
Ugh. The Cavs fanbase nauseates me. All this BS about how he's "earned the 'King James' label," and such. Gag. He can't carry the Cavs against us in a 7-game series.

Re: Maybe We'd Be Better Off Playing Detroit
He's definitely earned the 'King' title. He's like the King of Swaziland - the beloved leader of an insignificant and impoverished domain, who will get his crowned ass handed to him the moment he tries going toe-to-toe with an actual powerhouse.

You thought the Spurs were hated before? If LeBron pulls out a Cavs victory he'll ride into the finals on a tidal wave of premature ejaculations from the collective sports media. And then San Antonio will lay some hard fouls on him, he'll post a 12-6-4 game, and the Spurs will go down in history as The Team That Kills Overhyped Puppies.

Re: Maybe We'd Be Better Off Playing Detroit After
i wasn't Witness to it live, but i'm watching the youtube clip.  shouldn't detroit get a little bit more of the credit for the pathetic attempts at double/triple teaming him?  the 1st two dunks the help defense was nonexistent, as well as some of the later shots. the last layup: if you watch it, the other detroit defenders very passively attempted to help out with lebron. afraid to leave the shooters.  uhhh, why??  i can understand the 1st few shots, but after 10 points, don't you become aware of wtf's going down and cancel that fucker out/live with outlet 3's to snow and whoever else was out there?

i really wish i had watched it live though.  looks goosebumps inducing possibly.

Re: Maybe We'd Be Better Off Playing Detroit After
it was sorta goosebump inducing. actually it really was awesome to watch but Detroit just let him go to the hoop. On one monster dunk, Princess winced and cowered away from the King's path. Their defense was really pathetic. Instead of backing each other up they seemingly always just formed a loose wall that James was easily able to penetrate. No one behind that wall to help. Only when he shot from the outside did they actually put some good D on him but he even made those. Those outside shots were the great feats, IMHO.

Re: Cleveland
Yes.

And, wow, Detroit looks done as a team. I mean, they've looked like they were approaching "done" all year, but they definitely need to make major changes now. And it wasn't too long ago that Joe Dumars was a complete genius. Seeing situations like this just makes me appreciate the Spurs front office and coaching staff even more.

Detroit
Yeah, it's time for Detroit to make some moves. Rasheed Wallace is fucking nuts!!! They need to give him some Ritalin or something before the games or put it in his Gatorade or something.

why does Lebron get a pass?
Ok can someone here plz tell me why Lebron James gets a pass? If that were Kobe Bryant in game 5 they call him a hog baller and selfish, but Lebron is now the second coming of MJ.

Ah, news flash the second coming of MJ came years ago in LA LAND aka KOBE BRYANT.

ALso the Pistons defense or lack their off is why Lebron went so crazy and come on let not forget this is the freaking East for christ sakes!

SO what they beat detroit? and? Detroit is not the same team from 3 years ago! Cavz r not that good....you really think Cavz coudl beat Suns? Hell no!

BUt yet all of a sudden it this crap in the media about how the Cavz can beat us n that Lebron is MJ? First of he is not MJ and second even if he was even MJ in his prime could not beat us do we less forget the infamous coach daly's JORDAN rules(of containing MJ and shutting everyone else down?!?!?)

ALso last time i check we have the big three who the fuck they  have Larry Hughes> plz

Spurs in 5!

Re: why does Lebron get a pass?
Because nobody likes a Spur, I think is, at least, one part of it. It seems like it's still rather fashionable to hate us. Also, I agree with your post...amusingly enough, mein Vater and I had that exact conversation after game 6 ended.
