Game Thread # 49 -- @ Washington

Is it just me, or does it seem like it's been two forevers and a fortnight since the Spurs last played.  I'm suffering from withdrawal; at this point I would settle for four quarters of Michael Finley shooting 20 foot fadeaways and Beno dribbling it off the ref's foot.

I have a feeling about tonight's game.  A good feeling.  James White is going to play.  The stars are aligning.

-His Flightness suited up last game.  Afterwards Pop mentioned he intended to get him some minutes in the first half.

-The NBA recently announced the slam dunk contest participants:  Nate Robinson, Tyrus Thomas, Gerald Green and Dwight Howard (What?  Was Jerome James was unavailable due to a previous commitment?).  Tyrus Thomas, Grade A genius, had this to say about the "honor:"

"I'm just going to go out there, get my check and call it a day."

Asked if an opportunity to rub elbows with some of the game's greats could be beneficial for a rookie, Thomas kept unlacing.

"I'm just into the free money," he said. "That's it. I'll just do whatever when I get out there."

Now the NBA may be looking to replace him (via YAYSports!).

-Who do the people want?  Hmm.  Maybe James White.  Or how about James White.  Maybe James White would work.  And if the NBA refuses to invite James White they could always go with James White.  But seriously, the people want James White.

-You just know this Tyrus Thomas story is driving Stern crazy.  You're telling me he wouldn't have one of his cronies put a call in to Pop?

Crony:  All I'm saying is that maybe Gilbert Arenas is going to throw a lazy cross court pass with, oh, I don't know, 2 minutes and 12 seconds left to go in the first quarter, and maybe you could happen to have James White on the court at the time, and maybe you could let him about Arenas' tendencies, and maybe he could get a break away dunk, and maybe you could let him know to let it all hang out, and maybe the resulting highlight would force my boss to give the people what they want and save him from the current unfortunate Tyrus situation.  And maybe, if this all came to pass, maybe Dick Bavetta would randomly be assigned to work no Spurs playoff games this year.

You're telling me Agent Zero wouldn't go for this idea?  It probably was his idea.  He probably planted the dumb comments into Tyrus' head and now is telepathically controlling my typpity type type fingers.  He'd probably scream a laudatory "HIBACHI" as James White did a breakaway two-handed jam from the free throw line.

Tonight's lines (contest standings updated through PHX game):

SA @ WAS:  WAS +4
New Jersey @ ATL:  ATL +1

Why do they only have 4 players compete in the dunk contest it's pathetic!!!

How stupid is Tyrus, he  just got fined $10K, so instead of getting paid he has to pay. Nice job buddy. Keep your mouth shut next time.

ALso they better let White in the Contest because damn it he is a Spur! And he can jump really, really, really far!

Anybody else wonder why a 7 footer is in the dunk contest? I mean no way Howard is going to win. It should just be Gerald Green vs James White. Nate Robinson is a joke too, I don't want to see him get 20 chances to do a damn dunk!

This is the way to do it.  You're in.  Good luck.  The winner gets a $30 gift certificate to Amazon (or similar).  2nd place gets $20.  I'm not eligible to win.

I'm curious as to why we have to have Williams and a guy like Beno dressed every night. This'd be the perfect opportunity to get Butler and Flight some minutes.

Also, Tony must think he's still playing Steve Nash. Man, 6-6 in the 1st quarter.

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- @ Washington
Wouldn't it be a perfect time to put Beno in with such a big lead?

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- @ Washington
The only reason I am watching the all star weekend is to see James White in the NDBL all star game, because it looks highly unlikely that I can see him play in a Spurs game anytime soon. Stupid Coach!

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- @ Washington
Another gripe: why didn't the Nba ask Barry to compete in the 3 point shooting contest when he is averaging 47% from 3? But they let Damon Jones, which (the loudmouth moron) is only shooting 39% compete and Terry  who is shooting 40% compete?.

I mean if they asked Barryand he said no thanks, that's one thing, but not give him an opportunity is bull shit.

Re: Game Thread # 49 -- @ Washington
You should add a sub-link to International Legends and have on there: Duncan, Manu, Nash, Dirk, Parker, Gasol, Yao, Okur, barbosa, albeit they are not legends yet, but it can start a great debate.
