Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

Game Thread # 56 -- vs. Seattle

This will be an odds and ends type preview.

-There's a new poll.

-As pointed out by PtR member kalone, Bill Simmons wrote an article grading each team's performance at the trading deadline (it's an entertaining read).  He had the following to say about the Spurs, who he gave a grade of "INC" (meaning "incomplete"):

If the Spurs honestly believe this particular roster of guys can beat Phoenix or Dallas this spring, they're crazy. On the other hand, I'm not sure what they could have done. They need another big man to help out Tim Duncan defensively (he's slipping noticeably on that end), as well as a big-time perimeter stopper (Manu Ginobili's slipping and Bruce Bowen already slipped) ... but they had no trading chips other than their No. 1 pick, Luis Scola's rights and a couple of smaller expiring contracts. (Note: I spent 25 solid minutes trying to figure out a way they could have landed Joel Przybilla or Gerald Wallace for a reasonable price and couldn't make it work.) So what can you do? They're getting old and there's no real way to stop it.

-Tony Parker has a wounded knee; tendinitis.  And, as per usual, he's a little too honest:

"I'm young, so I'm not very disciplined with the treatments. I'll do it consistently when it hurts. But when it doesn't hurt, that's when I have to stay on it."

-Melvin Ely is much more adept at giving all the right answers (and we have no reason to question his sincerity):

When Ely learned of the trade, he said, "I just started smiling."

"I was at home like a kid getting ready for Christmas," said Ely, 28. "I couldn't go to sleep. I'm excited to play for a great team. Who wouldn't want to play for Tim Duncan?"

"They have a goal here. I was with the Clippers for two years and we were losing, then I was with an expansion team. But here, they're used to winning and working hard."

Uh, Melvin, you're playing with Tim Duncan, not for him.  Now those donuts you have to get before practice, those are for Tim.

-Tonight's recap is going to be written by PtR member BobPalSF.

-We're playing Seattle.  Let's not forget that Ray Allen is a manicured nancy boy whose has inappropriate relations with adolescent koala bears.  We hates him.

-Tonight's lines (contest standings are completely updated):

SEA @ SA:  SA -10
PHI @ MIL:  MIL -6

Post away.

If I ever said, "I'm young," I'm sure I stopped saying it before I turned 24, for the love of Jesus! I really like Tony, but that's getting a little stale.

ooh, the worst game for you to miss.  Allen had 12 points on 20 shots.  You would have been giggling for hours!

BABYFACE RAY RAY
plus how many disgusted babyfaces did RAY allen make esp the one when he turned the ball over after Bowen  forced him to make a bad pass this after Ray had stolen the ball just secs. He was like about to explode with hatred like the ref was a member of the KKK. Just classic. Bowen almost like he was smirking on the way back. CLassic!

Matty should kill COMCAST
Man comcast sucks ballz. This is the best overall game the spurs have played. I know it is Seattle but still this was about as perfect of game as possible. I mean the Red ROCKET for christ sakes was playing like the Cobra ninja Storm shadow slicing and dicing the SOnics defense. N then there was the fast break points....Tony was in a layup drill.

On the play of the night the soon to be 2007 Defensive Player of the real(finally when he sucks they give it to him thanks Napolean Stern!) dunked on the fast break.

Manu gets the rebound quickly passes it to Tony and haul ass and ur thinking ok either Tony is gonna lay it up of manu is gonna dunk and tony races and sharply passes it to Manu and almost in one motion similar to a baseball player catching and throwing in one motion send the bullet to BOWEN n he dunks it(or did he?) and everyone goes freaking bananas. The commentary by Elliott was just classic. N then the radio play by play sounded like Horrys game 5 3 pointer.

Plus the SPURS just seemed like a legit contender like the way when the ROCKETS in 96 turned in around late in season to win the 2nd ring. Feeling I get. Hell another interesting play I like to point was when the game was and the starters were pulled out and Guys like Michael Finley and Horry played like it was still a close game or playoff game esp when Finley passed off a wide open shot and instead gave it to Red Rocket cos he was even more open and I don't think FInley would ever done this in Phoenix/dallas days.

Plus Manu shut down Rashard Lewis and Bowen shut down Ray Allen n yet they are supposed to suck on Defense? Yeah sure Simmons!@

Man Matthew out to kill 'em!

Red ROCKET GLARE
oh don't flinch but has anyone noticed that Brent Barry is quitely actually playing solid defense. How many steals has he had in the last 5 games?

Plus Red Rocket is proving he is a potential playoff threat cos everyone knows in every playoff series there is always some guys U least expect to come off the bench n kill u. There was Jaren Jackson in the first ring....steve Kerr in 2nd ring and of course Brent Barry on 3rd one.

This time could it be Red ROCKEt who hits some clutch shots and goes off on one game to make a diff in a series?
