Game Thread # 16 -- vs. Washington
I haven't seen every Spurs game this year, but I cannot imagine them putting forth a poorer effort than what was displayed against Sacramento. The Kings have no post man I would consider a "defensive presence," yet the Spurs seemed unwilling to take the ball to the basket. Parker only took 13 FGA despite being guarded by Beno and Manu hoisted 6 shots from inside the arc. That's not good enough, though I suppose we could give them a pass for being tired.
I knew 2 minutes into the game the Spurs didn't have it and I didn't even bother watching the fourth quarter.
I didn't intend this to be a Kings recap, so I am simply going to ignore Beno's performance. I'm sure stampler will have something to say, and in the meantime you can check out rick2g's commentary.
The Wizards are coming into fresh off Monday's thrashing of the Mavericks. They're led by Caron Butler who has a PER of 23.4 and a ridiculous TS% of 61.4%.

Time to kick some ass tomorrow. Great game for Beno, but it's still only November and the Kings still suck. Any reasonable person has to realize the Spurs can't bring an A+ game every night. So last night was one of those nights no big deal.

I only missed two games this season, the one against the Kings being the second. I'm so glad I didn't have to watch Beno killing us.

Re: Game Thread # 16 -- vs. Washington
They used to have a simple philosophy: Pressure the outside shooters and force them to the base line where a shot blocker would await. The base line would act as an extra defender, the opponent would have a limited field of view and with big men watching the corners, shot blocks would greet anyone foolish enough to venture to the hoop. However, now players skilled and not skilled easily knife to the basket through the center of the lane to finish with either easy lay ups or thunderous dunks. How many posters have Spurs opponents made in this young season already? How many sports center highlights? Seeing flakes like Jimmy Pink Salmon slicing for repeated layups in crunch time is vomit material. Watching the Spurs fall victim to the same pick and roll, high-low pass and easy cut down the lane over and over again is mind boggling. Pop doesn't even call time outs or lambaste his players any more. Has Pop taken the same dope that Don Nelson has been throwing down for years? Mid tweeners and small ball? What a crock of shit. To quote John Wooden, "basketball has and always will be a game for big men".
Can somebody wake Timmeh up? Again, simple basic fundamental basketball. You go early into the post and attack the rack. It tires out the opposing post player so he is too tanked to play well on the offensive end, you might get him in foul trouble forcing him to the bench and it works great against ass clowns like horse face the seven foot Sacramento King center. Instead, Timbo decides not to make an effort early in the game and the Kings post players have a free pass to use all their energy on the offensive end..which they did. Gut wrenching.
The Sickness had one of the most horrific 10 minute periods I have ever seen. Passes out of bounds, passes picked off and taken in for uncontested dunks, throwing up bricks that clanged off the rim threatening everyone in the front row as they ricocheted with incredible speed.
Nice try at an attempted come back, but the defense sucked ass bad.

Spurs Bounce Back, Dispel Wizards
SA: 112
Apparently, the Spurs are going to have to outscore every opponent, because the defense has decided to shut down for the season and enter a drug induced, non-responsive coma! Even without Agent Zero, Washington still has a ton of weapons, as evidenced by their convincing win over our hated rivals, the Mavericks. I was really hoping to watch Arenas play against San Antonio, but as long as the Spurs come out on top, I'll be able to sleep well tonight.
