Game Thread # 2 -- @ Memphis

Stampler is doing the official Portland recap, so I am going to stick to just a couple notes.

--Stan Kelly... I know he's been around forever, but c'mon.  At this point I'd rather listen to the Pope masturbate.

--Pop's first chew out victim of the year?  Matt Bonner, for not fouling some dude to prevent the easy layup.  Should we call Matt Bonner "Gingerhead Man" or just "Ginger?"

--Manu has added to his arsenal of pads.  He now wears something over his tailbone.  I like to think of it as a "reverse codpiece."

--Darius Washington impressed me, especially his beard.  It's not as magnificent as Jackie Butler's was, but it's nothing if not delightful.  He made his presence felt early when he fouled his man while Portland was trying to inbounds the ball.  I'm fairly certain Beno isn't aware you're even allowed to play defense in that situation.

----

It's on to Memphis and the first segababa of the season.  The Grizzlies have a new coach in former Phoenix assistant Marc Iavaroni and a couple new bench pieces in Darko Milicic and Juan Carlos Navarro.  Umm.  Memphis is in Tennessee and Elvis has a museum there.  That's all I got.

Check out 3ShadesOfBlue.com for all things Grizzlies.

The closest guess of last night's final score was SA 105, POR 92, missing by a total of six points.  The guesser?  Me.  Yay.  My mother must be so proud.

Post away, yo, post away.

Damn Manu!! he didnt make the 20 points I predicted....¿why is he so unselfish? I hate him!!

Oh btw
Spurs: 116 (with almost all the league going all "phoenix style" maybe the Spurs will lead the league in scoring.....)

Re: Game Thread # 2 -- @ Memphis
I know it's only 1 game into the season, but after Darius' first game, I can honestly say there is not a single person on this team I would want replaced with anyone else.  We have the perfect balance of stars and role players.  I mean, even Jacques is a good third PG.

Spurs:95
Memphis: 89

And the journey begins, this W wasn't perfect, but a W nonetheless. This is going to be a fun season.

One of the little pleasures of life for me, is getting the lint out of the dryer, it's so effing soft... Yeah, it's probably time for me to get a girlfriend.

As for Manu well for the following will summarized my feelings for him

Against Memphis, its going to be Argentina (Manu & Fab) vs. Spain (Gasol & Navarro).

Just bring them on......95-81 for Spurs wo win

Re: Game Thread # 2 -- @ Memphis
i'm going spurs 102 grizz 97, but i expect the memphis will be vastly improved this year.  i mean, how could they be any worse than they were last year?

this game is a little scary because of the back to backs and memphis could be another one of those young and athletic teams that give us fits (portland last night, chicago, washington, etc.)

my buckeye nature is excited to see mike conley at the point for memphis.  feels like he was in college for 3 weeks.......look out for him once he catches up with the pro game.

somewhat dissapointed in gino's minutes with the rest of the big 3 last night.  seemed like he was always out there with barry, bonner darius and elson. not enough time with the first unit.
just start the dude and be done with it.

Hey Matthew,

Maybe you should start a contest guessing when we'll hear Bill Land's first "Oh, Mamma" of the season.  I soooo look forward to the possibility each and every time he calls a game.

Stampler,

I don't care what anyone says, I like OPUS.  But then again, I've liked him since the Billy & the Boinger days.

I am happy.  I am proud.  - Manu Ginobili

Re: Game Thread # 2 -- @ Memphis
Hey... I didn't say I disliked Opus.  I've been a Bloom County fan since the 80's.  And I recognize the similar color schemes and matching noses.  It's a bit incogrous from there, tho.
chaos... panic... pandemonium... my work here is done.
