J.R. Wilco on The Johnny Ballgame Show
Well, I appeared on eastern Oregon’s only live and local sports talk radio show today at 6:30pm CST (a.k.a. STTOTTM - Spurs Time The Only Time That Matters) 4:30pm Oregon time.
The Johnny Ballgame Show airs live Monday through Friday on 1450 AM and 1490 AM, if you happen to live in eastern Oregon with the ability to tune in to KLMB for the broadcast. For everybody else on the planet, there's the Johnny Ballgame Show's website, and in the right-hand corner of your screen click on the "watch" button.
Josh Guyer recorded my part of the show, and uploaded it to viemo here.
John was a pretty cool high-energy guy and I had fun talking about tonight's San Antonio Spurs @ Portland Trail Blazers game. I hope you £ers enjoy the recording.
And, in case you missed it earlier, check out Pounding the Rock's pre-game coverage: quincyscott's great preview on what to expect at tip-off tonight, and my own blog cross-talk with Dave of BlazersEdge, Fraternizing with the Enemy, where we discuss both team's recent games, the basketball gods, soggy crackers, Nicolas Batum in Portland's starting lineup, interchangeable parts in the Spurs rotation, the injury bug and the much despised Los Angeles Lakers.
Podcast: The Return of A Fifth of Spurs
It's been quite a while since I've done one of these. Mourning the loss of my co-caster, SiMA, and dealing with the compressed schedule has kept me off the mike since last season. But the endless pressure to re-boot AFoS by Matthew Tynan and SpursfanSteve, who agreed to be my cohorts this year, was just too much and so we're reimplementing your favorite bloggy pasttime: assembling an assortment of topics and holding forth on them while attempting to preserve the illusion of some kind of expertise -- otherwise known as pod-casting.
Thanks to Josh Guyer for his work in the booth and creating the variety of delivery methods below. Topics covered: the season so far, are the Spurs conference favorites, how long will Duncan play, and near endless improvisations on related themes. Enjoy responsibly. It's 38 minutes long. And please vote in the poll.
How to best assign blame for the loss to Memphis
It boils down to this: last year's Spurs did not have an answer for the Grizzlies when playing with a less-than-fully-healthy Manu Ginobili. The overall size of Memphis disrupted everything the Spurs offense had done well all season long. It wasn't just that they were big in the frontcourt with Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol pushing around Duncan, McDyess, Splitter, and Blair; it was also their length on the wings that enabled them to handle the offensive wrinkles that Pop and the coaching staff (PATCS? maybe not) threw at them, without having to change their preferred lineups. I had a discussion with SpursfanSteve (before the season opener and, of course, Manu's injury) and we talked about the end of last season, how it could be evaluated, what should be done for this season, and some possible tweaks for the lineup. It's pretty impressive when you see how many things SfS really hit right on the head, from the things we've seen over the first nine game.
[Editor's Note: For those of you who are wondering where the recap of last night's Thunder game is, please bear with us while we work through some technical difficulties. -JRW]
Q&A with Welcome to Loud City
Welcome to Loud City, the Thunder SBNation blog, is putting together a series of Q&A sessions with all the Western Conference Playoff teams. SpursFanSteve started conversation, and now Dogburt returns the favor by giving us some insight into a possible future oppenent (assuming the Spurs decide to start hitting shots).
Heat @ Spurs: JRW chats through the win
Tonight was a rare night at the Wilco household. Not only were all five of the jrwlings in bed before game time, but Mrs. Wilco (who had a very busy week) retired early as well, leaving yours truly all alone, and able to completely focus on the game, for the whole game. This does NOT happen very often, so I decided to commemorate it with my very own Game Chatdiary. I IM'd with Jordan Leithart. Texted with SpursFanSteve. Then finished up the night by chatting with CapHill and Hirschof. What follows is a record of the excellence that occurred off the court, while the Spurs were conducting excellence on the court to the tune of a 30 point win over the Miami Heat. Tallyho!

SFS in Enemy Territory: Spurs @ Sixers
Over the past week, JRW helped me kidnap Jordan Sams of Philadelphia's Liberty Ballers SBN blog, and we've had him locked in an interrogation room at an undisclosed location ever since. I'm proud to say that after much torture, we were able to break him, but it wasn't until we gave up on the water boarding and moved on to speaking only in Blair tweets that he finally gave up some info.
