Re: Game Thread # 45 -- @ Washington
I guess we will find out tomorrow. He has to be planning for another trade, it just doesn't make sense.

Re: Game Thread # 45 -- @ Washington
I'm thinking they're hoping for a buyout.  That, or the team with the best record in the west knows they can't beat the spurs and have given up.

Re: Game Thread # 45 -- @ Washington
Kerr is probably still on the Spurs' payroll.

Either that or it is a grand conspiracy:

McHale revitalizes Boston, followed by West helping out LA in order to re-create a Lakers-Celtics Final, and then sprinkle in a Shaq-Kobe playoff battle for good measure.

It's got to be great to be a Spurs fan right now.  We suck again!

He is, I just saw on ESPN the Heat have agreed to trade Shaq for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks. Just when I thought I was beginning to understand the NBA, they pull shit like this.

I think I am going to spend the rest of the afternoon lighting candles to the FSM and asking for this to happen.

Re: Game Thread # 45 -- @ Washington
heard some of this talk on radio last night and was as surprised as the rest of you.  the other thing brought up was some rift in phoenix between kerr and d'antoni.  something to the effect of kerr not believing that mike d and his style can win the big one.  anyone else got anything on that? it was just some hacks on radio, so who knows the true value....

at the very least our boy stevie kerr is sending mixed messages.  he ships kurt thomas out and brings grant hill in - smaller, faster right? and now this? doesnt add up.  something smells about this one, but who am i to complain about the fastest team in the west getting the slowest plodder in the game?

i also heard talk of shaq to dallas? i havent seen if anything has happened with shaq yet, but whoa on either of these. i dont mind seeing the west get bigger and slower all the sudden - maybe the NBA gave up on the new run and stun style already?  i mean its only been a couple of years now......maybe old and slow is back in style all the sudden?

Re: Game Thread # 45 -- @ Washington
here is the marc stein article from ESPN on the shaq to phoenix matter. some pretty solid facts in terms of shaq calling the suns players and their shootaround being moved, etc. makes it all sound done. perhaps shaq's injuries could foil the deal?

for once, something from the world-wdie misleader is well written and even well reasoned. but that still doesnt make it right on the suns end.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3232862

everytime shaq drags a franchise down the tubes, they just agree to send him to another solid contender.  i dont get this except for his track record of winning titles when properly side-kicked. but that was in the old days when he was still young enough and in shape enough to contribute. a BIIIIG gamble for the suns - and it looks like a bad one to all of us for sure.

I knew that there were chemistry issues in Phoenix, but this sure seems like a desperation deal. It would be interesting to hear Kerr's comments...

Can't help but think that the spanking we gave the Suns last week was the proverbial straw! I think Kerr just realized that the current line-up, strategy and style would never result in a title. Add to that the fact that the Steve Nash window is almost closed, and you have desperation. Sure hope it (if it happens) blows up in their collective faces.

I Miss Antonio Daniels

Regarding the potential Heat-Suns trade; the consensus seems to wonder what Phoenix is thinking. I don't see how Shaq makes them a better team, in any way, but what do I know? I do know this: Miami may still be lottery bound, but watching Shawn Marion play with Dwayne Wade will be a ton of fun to watch and they should double their win total easily.

As for tonight, we take on an Arenas-less, and possibly Butler-less, Wizards team. Should mean another "W", right? I hope so!

With all this talk about Vaughn and Stoudamire, it got me thinking about who my favorite Spurs backup point guard was. And I definitely believe it was Washington's current PG, Antonio Daniels. He played aggressive defense, knew how to run and sustain our offense, could penetrate and find an open shooter, occasionally would hit a 3 pointer, and the best part was when he would get a breakaway and go up for the Tower of America's dunk! That was always the highlight of my night watching our Spurs back then. Aawwh...tear

i miss stealing his Jim's burger! i think that was the one where the aftergame photos had a sad AD cradled in TD's arms. twas a sad one. And double of nothing still is nothing, i can't see the heat winning more just because they recieve the ugliest shot in the league. do marion's arms ever fully extend? he's just too inconsistent. streaky shooter he is.

Re: Game Thread # 45 -- @ Washington
I'm sure Sean Marion was a cancer in the locker room, but that doesn't justify taking such a huge risk on Shaq.  If I were the front office, I'd be worried all season that he'll get injured.

We all know that Shaq totally worked out and was motivated after his trade to Miami, but will he be able to do so in this situation?  Four years later?  Four years older?  At 36?  I don't think so.

Maybe if he had followed Bruce Bowen's physical regimen all of his life this might be a different story.
