More All-Star Snubbage

Certainly the NBA All-Star weekend festivities don't ever favor the Spurs. For the player selection, you have the votes of fans which are utterly meaningless considering fans can vote as often as they like. And the slam-dunk contest? Give me a break. Talk about a meaningless thing that has nothing to do with basketball. The teams' mascots could probably do better.

But the Three Point contest is one area where there should at least be a possibility of a mathematical inclusion rule. I mean, why have an All-Star three-point contest if it is not to feature the league's best three-point shooters, right? But the NBA in their infinite wisdom chose their own private popularity contest instead.

The contestants, and their rankings in 3pt percentage are as follows:

  • Rank Player
  • ----------------------------------
  • 46 Eric Gordon
  • 37 Kyrie Irving
  • 29 Kemba Walker
  • 7 Klay Thompson
  • 14 Nick Young
  • 54 Wesley Matthews
  • 11 Kyle Lowry

This should be an outrage. The only contestants in the contest who should have even had any hope of being there are Klay Thompson and Kyle Lowry.

Why were NO SPURS featured? Patty Mills is #4, for example, ranked higher than any of the contestants. Ginobili is #21, Danny Green is tied for #22, Kawhi is tied with Kemba Walker for #29 and happens to also be a potential MVP candidate this year. There is no excuse for not including either Kawhi or Mills in the three-point shootout.

I tried really hard to watch some of the all-star weekend festivities, but it was just ridiculous and unwatchable. I had caulking to do on a roof I just built, and then I had to watch it dry. That was all much more enjoyable than the asinine "sports substitute" that was polluting TNT. I kind of wish there was a complete Spurs blackout on the all-star weekend just so the last real basketball team doesn't get tarnished with this trash. The Spurs team is too high class to even consider what I think they really should do, which is to boycott this travesty.
