Trade or Wait

This is a discussion that breeds dialog and often malcontent among fellow Pounders. Just to be clear, I personally am not a proponent of discussing trading any player from the Spurs out of angst because of how that player is producing at the current time. The Spurs are a family or they in the least treat their players as such. Nurturing, teaching, dare say compelling their talent in becoming better or helping them through difficult times on the court.

However, for me, I enjoy discussing possible trades IF a trade were to happen. Call it the extreme amateur GM trait that dwells in the depths of my mind. It keeps the neurons firing in the otherwise easily to get bored if I have to concentrate on just one thing atmosphere. To which, being a Spurs fan, if one is open to trade, the organization does not give much room to support such a sympton. There - I am admitting I'm sick. But recognition is often the first step to being cured. And most of time cure is an incremental procedure to ween someone off their dependency.

So, bare with me nay sayers of trade. The masses who condemn such thought as if it were sacrilegious and would rather eliminate those who speak of it by punishment of death via ceremonial fire burning at the stake.

The San Antonio Spurs, at the time of this post, have a second best league record of 39-7. New players acquired in free agency were LaMarcus Aldridge at $61,500,000.00 guaranteed over four years and David West at a deep discount of $1,500,000.00 guaranteed for one year. They are not going anywhere. And neither are Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Boris Diaw. As far as Mat Bonner, he is like a family heirloom. He is forever preserved in the genealogy of Spurs culture. So his departure would be equivalent of giving away that old piece of furniture which does not match the new items that make up new decor. Kept mainly for it's sentimental and respect value yet still serves purpose in a pinch.

That leaves the rest of the roster. Danny Green, Kyle Anderson, Patty Mills, Jonathon Simmons, Boban Marjonovic, Rasual Butler and Ray McCallum. Now if (using that word loosely) a trade would ever to be done before the end of this season, these would likely be the players involved. So, who could the Spurs get out of any one or combination of the "rest of the roster"? This is where the discussion begins with any of you wanting to participate. Please be civil. It's not likely any suggestion or scenario would be done so, if you do not like or think it is out of the question, I encourage to respond cordially.

Personally, unless a trade ways heavily in favor for the Spurs, I believe the team will keep who they have for the duration of the season and look into acquiring via free agency this summer any player they deem necessary for future runs at the title. One thing certain is the Spurs are having one of their best regular seasons since 2011. They more than likely, as history has proven, run with who they have and figure it best to wait.
