5 moves that could keep the Spurs dynasty going for years to come.

1) Sign GREG MONROE. As I continue to read about the Lamarcus Aldridge rumors I can't help but wonder if this would be a mistake. He's going to be 30 years old and seems to have personality issues. Maybe it could work out, but I wonder about what would happen if they commit to him with a max-level contract and then there are serious chemistry issues. In a perfect world, Marc Gasol would be available to us but that's not going to happen. That's where Monroe comes in. He's a decent interior scorer, rebounds well, and passes well for a big man. Monroe will be 25. He's young. He's athletic. He will likely be cheaper than Aldridge. And he could a great building block for the post-Big 3 era.

2) TONY PARKER to the bench. Tony's ego would probably never let this happen. But it could be best for the team... and for him! One of the main reasons the Spurs have been so dominant in recent years is that Manu gave them a premier play maker off the bench. When he was rolling, the entire bench clicked. Manu still shows flashes but he just doesn't look like he has that consistent premier play making ability anymore. That's where Tony Parker comes in. He automatically gives us one of the top 6th men in the league. It gives him a chance to tear through second unit defenses just like Jamal Crawford or Isaiah Thomas. It keeps him fresher. AND there's no reason that the ball can't still be in his hands during crunch time. I do hope we re-sign Manu but he's looking more like a 10-20min/game type of player at this point.

3) Start CORY JOSEPH. The job he did at the start of last season made me believe that he can work as a starter. Maybe you remember that the Spurs didn't actually do that great with him as a starter. But that was before Leonard emerged as a more confident offensive player. I can see Joseph as a stable, Avery Johnson defense-first type point guard. And he'll have plenty of viable options to dish to in Duncan, Leonard, and Monroe. Unfortunately, I don't think there is room on the team for Parker, Joseph, and Mills. Since Parker and Mills are under contract (and preferred by Pop), I highly doubt Joseph will stay. So that leaves Mills... I have a little more reservation about him as a starting point guard. He can't really drive to the basket or finish and the Spurs offense has to have that. They could try using Leonard more as sort of a point-forward but he may not be ready for that on a consistent basis. This is a crucial piece of the puzzle because I can't see the Spurs getting a new point guard and giving him major minutes with Parker and Mills on the team. Hopefully we are able to re-sign Joseph. He's only 23. I think his best days can be ahead of him. Continuing to start Parker and watching him battle through injuries and force ugly shots for stretches of the season I don't think will cut it for us this year.

4) Re-sign Danny Green. Streaky as he is... there's no better pure 3&D guy. That rounds out a starting 5 of Joseph, Green, Leonard, Duncan, Monroe... with Parker, Mills, Ginobili (who hopefully they can resign on the cheap... 1 more win and our Big 3 becomes the winningest regular season NBA trio of all time, isn't that motivation enough?), Anderson, Diaw, and Splitter/Baynes (I feel like they will probably get rid of one of these two) plus their 2015 draft pick. I doubt Bellinelli is going to stick around and if I had to choose between MB and DG I pick Green every time because of the defense. This looks like a serious contender to me... but also a team that could be even greater in the future as Leonard, Monroe, and maybe Joseph enter their primes. If we can't sign Danny... we may have to go after a cheaper option like Alan Anderson. Somehow I think we'll be okay if this happens and it will be Danny who will be sorry.

5) Don't do anything crazy. Not that our Spurs ever would... but think about it. We brought back the entire team from last year and if it weren't for injuries and a lack of desire we would have been a 60 win team and would likely still be in the title hunt. It sucks to lose in the first round, but we lost an away game 7 by 2 points to a desperate LA Clippers team that looks no worse than a top 3 team in the league.
