ARE THE SPURS THE CHOSEN ONES?????……..

Every year, there is the same goal for a winning franchise, to win the NBA championship in June. Many people consider the Spurs old, but this time the real question is…. Are they the chosen ones to beat the Warriors in the Western conference and make it to the NBA finals? It has been an unbelievable start for the Warriors franchise making history with their 18-0 record. They haven’t lost a game and with Stephen Curry on fire and a small ball lineup which no team can guard at the end of games, who knows when they will have their first loss of the season.

Many experts believe that the Spurs are the only team that can beat the Warriors in the Western conference finals and that’s something I agree with. The San Antonio Spurs are a model franchise because of the results and the level of basketball they’ve reach over the past years, through the 2000’s and 2010’s. A level of winning not found in professional basketball anywhere else, or really anywhere in pro sports.

They are not a franchise that will sign all-stars to win a championship, and if they do the player will have to adapt to their game style even if this means less playing time and being more of a role player on the team.

They have adjusted their system to LaMarcus and the older roster they have by playing at a slower pace and by playing big lineups, with great, skilled big men like LaMarcus, Duncan, Diaw, and West able to rotate and step up at any point during the season. The emergence of Kawhi as their best player has also taken off some of the pressure of their older players.

This is the case of LaMarcus Aldridge who was signed by the Spurs this season. Aldridge came to the Spurs will the future and the present in mind, in order to be successful this season as well as many others after Duncan and Ginobili retire. The Spurs needed someone who could help Parker and Kawhi keep the franchise winning games for the future.
