Austin Daye has been booted off many teams such as the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, and Memphis Grizzlies. He has yet to find a team or system that works for him. He was resigned this summer by the Spurs to come back, and that to me, means he is going to be getting a little more playing time. A lot of people see him as just a bust, but I think he has potential as does Pop and the Spurs organization. He's a 6'll SF who has proven he can shoot from 3 point range...he is just not consistent. He isn't really built and is not the best defender, but luckily being in the Spurs system, most of his flaws can be covered up somewhat. We have 2 primary "STRETCH 4's" in Boris Diaw and Matt Bonner, why not have a 3rd in Austin Daye?
Austin participated in this years Summer League where he averaged 16.3 PPG, 6.7 RPG, and 3 APG, I know many people are saying "Summer League stats don't matter" especially for a player who is almost in his 6th season, but my point is, he consistently scored double digit points in the 5/6 games he played at Summer League. In his final Summer League game this year he scored 27 points against the Wizards. Last season he averaged 3 points playing professionally in the few games he actually did play, but imagine if he was able to bring over what he did this year in Summer League, to the professional league. There's no better team than the Spurs that can bring out this kids potential. I think this will be Austin Daye's year, to prove his doubters wrong. What do you guys think?
