Metta World Peace Still Wants In

You would not be hard pressed to find a basketball player who does not admire the stability and success of the San Antonio Spurs. But, when it comes to most players, that is as far as the talk goes. Plenty of players rave about the Spurs but none actually decide to bring their talents to the Military City. One free agent might be considering an attempt to join the squad. Metta World Peace has not been exactly discreet about his fondness for the spurs. Its uncertain whether or not he genuinely wants to play for this organization, or if he is just paying homage. Why would he want to play basketball when he has a successful music career anyway? His dreams of being on top of the music charts have not stopped him from showing interest in continuing his basketball career. His favorite way to express his feelings is to tweet about it endlessly. Just before the deadline, he had plenty to say about the Spurs' teamwork style of play.

If he really wants to play here, its more than a pipe dream. But, that has not stopped him from "jokingly" asking for a spot on the roster. During an interview at the Espys, with Matt Bonner and Danny Green, he playfully talked about coming to San Antonio to win a ring. It was all just mindless banter, but imagine if World Peace did pursue an extension on his career. MWP's effective playing days are over. He is no longer the 24 ppg monster of the Indiana Pacers, but he claims that he can still play defense.

If he were to be signed as the 15th man, he might not see very much playing time. He could maybe see the same roll Aron Baynes saw against Dwight Howard but that is as far as I would go. Having him to just come in and play some hard D could prove beneficial but I feel like his defense is the furthest thing on RC's mind when he begins to think about Metta. Although its all just barber shop talk, its fun to think about hypotheticals like this. Would you like to see Metta in a spurs uniform?
