Power Rankings Week 20: Red-hot Spurs are California-dreaming

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

The win streak is now up to 10 as the Spurs take their show to the West Coast. Let's see what people are saying about the NBA's best team.

50-plus wins. 15 straight seasons. I'm not going to quote Ricky Bobby verbatim, but there's something about excellence here that can be said for Pop and the Spurs in the past decade-and-a-half.

San Antonio was the first team to reach the David Robinson mark this year, and they remain atop the NBA's standings with a 50-16 record. The Spurs steamrolled opponents last week, winning by eight in Chicago and then by double-digits against Portland, LA and Utah. They're now winners of ten straight, with a west-coast swing this week that should only test them on their last stop: at Golden State.

The only Cali team San Antonio won't face this week, the Clippers, are the only ones that challenge them as the all-out top team in the web-wide power rankings. Other than that, there's not much for us, the Persecuted, to complain about.

Marc Stein from ESPN, (Spurs rank: 2, last week's rank: 3)

Kawhi Leonard has been back from injury for 10 games. The Spurs are 10-0 in those games, by an average victory margin of 15.3 PPG, after going 8-6 without him. PS -- This is San Antonio's 16th winning streak of the Pop Era spanning at least 10 games ... five more than any other team.

Marc J. Spears from Yahoo! Sports (Spurs rank: 1, last week's rank: 1)

San Antonio Spurs (50-16; last week's ranking: 1): In addition to winning 10 straight games overall, San Antonio has won five straight on the road. The Spurs visit the Lakers on Wednesday.

Jason Patt from SBNation NBA (Spurs rank: 1, last week's rank: 1)

The Spurs have won 10 straight games and are the first team to 50 wins this year. San Antonio has now reached the 50-win mark in 15 straight seasons.

USA Today (Spurs rank: 1, last week's rank: 1)

Landing a third No. 1 seed in four years and the fourth 60-win season of the Tim Duncan era.

John Schuhmann from NBA.com (Spurs rank: 1, last week's rank: 1)

The Spurs won the race to 50 wins (a mark they've now hit in 15 straight seasons), winning 10 straight games, and are two games into a stretch where they play just one of nine against a team with a winning record. They've outscored their opponents by 24 per 100 possessions with Tiago Splitter on the floor and have shot an absurd 46.1 percent from 3-point range during the streak.

Matt Moore from CBSSports.com (Spurs rank: 1, last week's rank 1)

They're on the kind of run that leaves teams in shock. They're basically a traumatic event at this juncture. They are to be avoided at all costs.
