So I play rec basketball, as do many others here I have gathered, and though I play hard (think Tony Allen with less BBIQ, worse shooting, and worse handles) I've always been fortunate that I'd never been seriously injured. I had always escaped the pulled muscles, freak ligament tears, badly twisted ankles and other ailments that have befallen players much more talented and athletic than I.
Yesterday I took a nasty spill to the floor when the other team's center, who happens to be one of the biggest guys in the league, went over my back for a rebound. I got the call, but it was little consolation as I came up smarting. You'll never guess how I was injured, too: Broken finger. Yup, a busted metacarpal to be exact.
So it looks like none of us our immune. Anyone Spur player, fan, member of the front office, The Coyote, the dance team, the half-time performers, we're all at risk of busting a metacarpal until it can be otherwise determined that the risk has passed. Those most at risk appear to be anyone having anything to do with defense, as both Danny and Kawhi and now me can attest (yes, I fancy myself as something of a rec league stopper. Not proud of it, but I am that guy). So be wary Spurs fans, next time you chant defense your hand might give a little. When PATFO goes to make that trade for a wing defender, the knuckle on his dialing digit might just turn into dust. When Pop wants to make a sub for defensive purposes, his entire hand might just explode. Something is clearly amiss right now in Spursdom, and until and unless we stop it or it runs its course, we are all at risk....
