Finals Format

So this article over at EvilSPN made me sit up straight. I have felt for about three decades that the NBA Finals should have the same 2-2-1-1-1 format as earlier rounds, and out of the blue it looks like they are about to do just that. Bravo, NBA! I only wish you had fixed this a year earlier. Who knows how it might have changed things...

My feeling is that the 2-3-2 format heavily favors the team with the better record, who already has a big advantage anyway. Winning three games in a row at that level is very hard, so invariably one of those middle three games is a loss. In effect the team with the lesser record is throwing away one of their precious home court advantages because the difficulty of the three game sweep cancels out their home court edge.

Anyway, if they truly are changing back to the old format, I think it's a good thing, and will make for a more competitive Finals. Any thoughts?
