Memphis Waives Fab Melo. Is He Worth A Shot for the Spurs' 15th Roster Spot?

According to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, the 7-foot recently acquired Grizzly has been waived by Memphis. He is owed $1.3M in the coming season if we claim him off waivers. He seems to be a head case, but with great defensive potential. Hereunder is an excerpt from that Wojnarowski piece that made me look past that head case part:

Melo, who played parts of two seasons at Syracuse, had been a highly recruited player out of Brazil. Melo was the Big East's defensive player of the year in 2012. He showed flashes of potential in stops with the Celtics' D-League affiliate in Maine, delivering a 15-point, 16-rebound and league-record 14-block game.
