I would like to see the Spurs offer a 10 day contract to either Rick Jackson or JaMychal Green from the Toros. Both are 6'9" and offer unique qualities. Jackson is averaging a near double double and Green possesses nice foot work which might be what the Spurs need for defending athletic power forwards. There have been many rumblings this year concerning DeJuan Blair and Matt Bonner’s future with the Spurs, but I cannot picture why another team would be willing to give up a more apt front court player in trade for either of these men. Both have fallen from the rotation and appear to be glued to the end of the bench, but this doesn’t mean the team can do without production from two more spots on the team. I know the expiring contract scenario may be attractive for some teams, but some of these clubs are hesitant to give the Spurs anything to work with. Add to that the fact that some unnamed owners are willing to abuse the salary cap, and it might get very difficult for Holt and company to land any quality for immediate help, if they so desire.
I'm not one of the fans that can never be satisfied. The Spurs are having a great year and I look for it to continue, but with the Clips and Thunder hammering away I wonder if it might take 65 wins to garner home court advantage in the West, and like last year HCA still isn't always enough. I for one believe that rest at the end of the regular season is no longer a luxury for the Spurs, but a necessity. I know this season is only half way through and a lot of things can happen such as injuries, trades, slumps, etc., but I'm comfortable in saying that it will be a sprint to the finish for positioning in the West. I’m curious if anyone thinks that either Jackson or Green will earn a ten day contract this season?
