Hack to relax — part of Popovich’s strategy

24

LOS ANGELES — Someone asked Gregg Popovich why he opted to foul Reggie Evans in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game, and Popovich said simply: "Because he’s not a good free throw shooter." Everyone laughed. "I’m not trying to be a wise guy," Popovich continued. "I just don’t know what else to tell you. We weren’t going to go foul Chris Paul. I’m sorry to be a wise guy, but I fouled him for a reason. It’s not pretty. Basically, it’s ugly, but it’s part of the game. My job is to try to win."
