Those of you who have been around PtR during the playoffs before will probably recognize this, but some of you may not. Every year, we have a just-for-fun contest to see who can do the best job of predicting the result of each playoff series.
So, let's get started.
This is a very simple format. For each series being played, simply pick a winner and a number of games. For example, a sweep of the Jazz would be "Spurs in 4". You are allowed to change your mind and post something else, but we will only use one set of picks - If you post multiple entries, the last one entered before the cutoff time will be used.
All contest entries must be posted before the playoffs begin at 12PM Spurs time on Saturday, 28 April 2012. To check what time that would be where you live, click here.
This is where things get complicated. I'll try to make this as simple a scoring system as possible, but it might still be confusing to
mavfans some people. If you get the winner and number of games right, you get 6 points. If you're off by one game in either direction, you get 4 points. We then deduct one point for each additional game you're off by. The exception to this rule is that if you pick the wrong team to win, that is an extra 2-point deduction.
As an example, here's how it would work for each actual result if you picked OKC to beat Dallas in 6 games:
OKC in 4 = 3 points
OKC in 5 = 4 points
OKC in 6 = 6 points
OKC in 7 = 4 points
DAL in 7 = 1 point
DAL in 6 = 0 points
DAL in 5 = -1 point
DAL in 4 = -2 points
If anyone has a suggestion to make this system better, we'll take it under consideration.
Point values and deduction will double each round, so even if you far badly in this round, stick with it - you never know what can happen in the later rounds.
Also, if I could get a volunteer to run the scoring spreadsheet, that would be incredibly helpful.
