Before I get started on this, I need to provide a disclaimer. My photoshop skills are non-existent and therefore some of these pics will be hilarious for the wrong reason.
Now that I have that out of the way, I invite you to join me after the jump and peer at the nerdy-ness that is within to find out which Spurs players are which DBZ characters....
First up we have Tim Duncan as Goku. The reason that Duncan is Goku is because he is the foundation of the Spurs, the man that when all the chips are down and when everyone else is beaten he can still save us. He is the Oldest of the Spurs, in essence he is the Foundation of the "modern era" Spurs. He is the quite, fun loving and peaceful man but he is a competitor and loves a good match up and excels in them. Pounders, meet the leader of your team.
Then we have Tony Parker as Vegeta. Now this is may seem like an odd choice; however, they fit better than you may think. Vegeta started off as one of the bad guys, someone the fans didn't especially like, the anti-hero. When Parker came along many people had their doubts and throughout the years there has been much talk from the fans of the Spurs to trade and let go of Tony, many displaying anger towards him, seeing him as an enemy. Now though it seems that he is back in the good graces of the fans and many have grown to love our wee lil Frenchman. Like Vegeta, Parker has also shown to take great pride in his skills, and rightfully so, being one of the 3 most powerful beings on the Earth/universe/team. And much like Vegeta not catching Goku, Parker still has not achieved the status that Duncan has, but he will still continue to train to try and surpass him and himself and be a better player for it.
Next comes Manu Ginobili as Gohan. Much like Timmeh, Manu is a peaceful man just pounding away at the rock. and much like Gohan he is peaceful until you make him mad. Once you get either of the two warriors angry, all bets are off. The beast within Manu can single-handedly win you games and change the tide of a series. Much like the power within Gohan, when it needs to be used or when he gets mad and needs to save his team he is an unstoppable force. Where even one of the greatest enemies in the DBZ series (Cell) was taken down many notches by the power of Gohan, much like the schooling that Manu has given one of the most hated players of a Spurs fan (Kobe) quite a few times.
Representing the future of the Spurs is a DBZ character that traveled through time in order to help defeat the enemies of the world. (Future) Trunk is just a bad ass, he is awesome and can hold himself in a fight and he also represents the future of defenders of the world. Much like Tiago Splitter, which almost seems like a time traveler come to help us in our time of need, he represents part of our future of our team. One with out Duncan, Tony or Manu, and even if he still has a ways to go, the future looks bright for the team. May his sparkles of power light the way!
Now comes Danny Green as Goten. A playful person, at times it seems like he just wants t have fun and enjoy everything that has been given to him, however with all the hard work that he has put into training he shows that he enjoys a good match. When Goten's brother (Gohan) went down he picked up the slack and continued fighting, he showed that he is more than capable of taking over for his brother if the need arises. Much like Green, who has shown that he has the ability to step up when needed, especially when we had to deal with LWM.
Then comes Matt Bonner as Krillin. Krillin in the series has been used as comic relief and is not a strong of a fighter as the others on his team, however he still has the ability to be a major asset and a great defender when times are rough. Even though Bonner is at times seen as the red headed step child of the group, he is still a major asset to the Spurs and has been useful and either hitting the evils of the NBA where it hurts with his 3's. And one can never forget the awesomeness that is "Coach B"
Now comes Stephen Jackson as Piccolo. Captain Jax, much like Piccolo was seen as an early enemy to the good guys, however he is now fighting on the heroes side. It can be said that Piccolo much like Jax is not the big bad ass that he once was, however he is still an amazing asset and someone who will give there all for the team. He is also seen as someone who would be an enforcer and can play the role of the bad guy, something that is at times needed when fighting the true Evils of this world.
Now we find ourselves to Kawhi Leonard playing the part of Uub. Now for those who don't know Uub is the reincarnation of Buu after Goku took him out in their final battle. Uub is seen as the Strongest Human alive although he is still young and has quite a bit of room for improvement however he is already showing an unprecedented amount of skill and power. Much like KL who is seen as a reincarnation of Bruce Bowen, Kawhi is not there yet, however he is an amazing player and has shown very high potential.
Now comes another new addition to the Spurs, Boris Diaw as Tien. This may be a bit of a strech, but I think they do fit together. Many people have had their doubts about Diaw when we picked him up, about his fatness and whether he is in shape or not, I honestly think he is more muscular than fat, and has really show some good speed now that he is playing here. Unlike in DBZ I do hope to see more of Diaw in the postseason and I hope he doesn't disappear like Tien did.
Now we come to Gary Neal as Yamcha. Who else would Gary be but the "coolest" guy of the series. A quick athletic player Neal exudes cool and has ice water in his veins. Yamcha is just cool... If you don't like this pick though, you an just Neal with it
Yeah... I went there... Dejaun Blair as Yajirobe. Dubbed as the other half of the whatabrothers, Blair has earned the reputation of being a jovial big man and even though recently he seems to be shying away from being in thick of the fight, much like Yajirobe though, he has been quite instrumental in the past in dealing with some of the larger problems we have had.
Here we have Patrick Mills as Dende. He may not be the strongest nor the fastest, but he still has great power.
James Anderson is Chiaotzu. Much like this character in DBZ JA had shown some amazing potential, but along the way he just seemed to disappear and fizzle out. Hopefully he won't have to blow himself up on top of an enemy player just to be useful like Chiaotzu did against Napa...
Now we come the old man teacher of this collection of misfits. Master Roshi, and Greg Popovich. Some times their dispositions rub people the wrong way and their sense of humor may be lost to those who don't know him well enough, but he has always been the one behind the scenes making sure his team, his fighters are in the best shape possible to counteract the forces of evil. We have even seen both of them get in the ring before, With master Roshi fighting some baddies himself, and Master Pop getting in the face of bad refs everywhere. Let's just hope That Pop, unlike Roshi, can keep his shirt on the next time he is needed to come to the aid of his team.
Well that is it guys, hope yall enjoyed this little look into the geeky madness that is my brain. Also any mistakes or anything that needs to be changed let me know.
