New York Times on Duncan and Popovich

This article really highlights the thing I love most about the Spurs -- the way they work as a unit & the relationship between Duncan and Pop, which is pretty unique, and inspiring.

In San Antonio, a Coach’s Player, a Player’s Coach

I've been watching the Spurs since about to '05 season, and the that's the thing that drew me in to begin with & keeps me around. All around the league, you see revolving doors full of big egos & front offices all-too willing to bow to their petulant stars. It was off-putting to me for years before I started regularly watching the Spurs, and I feel super lucky as a fan to have such a class organization just an hour's drive away.

The takeaway quote: “I probably get on him more than I get on, say, Gary Neal,” Popovich said, referring to a Spurs reserve guard. “ ‘Timmy, you getting a rebound tonight or are we just going to leave and go to dinner?’ He’ll look at me say, ‘Hey, I’m trying,’ but he can be criticized. He’s not embarrassed to be called out in front of the team.”
