I think this trade is predicated on the fact that TJ Ford will no longer be on the team for the rest of the season. This leaves us with no legitimate ball-handler to ably backup for Tony. Corey Joseph cannot fill the shoes left by TJ. Gary Neal has shown some promise, but PATFO sure realizes that he'd be more effective and efficient doing what he does best - shoot the ball. This is where Stephen Jackson comes in. Captain Jack is a much better ball-handler than Jefferson is. Neal could still be our primary backup at point, but in certain games that he's struggling, Jackson seems to be the perfect guy to do so. This should also allow us to play Kawhi some more minutes, with RJ gone. Jackson may come off the bench in his first few games back in the fold, but there's no doubt that he's destined to start at SG later in the season, and in the playoffs.
I like this trade so much! Jackson is an upgrade on defense and offense overall. When Kawhi started at SG and Jefferson at SF, we lacked offense. Jackson-Kawhi is better offensively than Kawhi-Jefferson wing combination. Jackson-Kawhi is better defensively than the Neal-Jefferson combination, too. Let's forget the Manu-Jefferson wing tandem for the moment because it's out of the question. Fact of the matter is that Pop now has more possible combinations to play with since Jackson can play SG effectively unlike RJ. Although RJ could play some PF, too... well, what does RJ do that Kawhi can't, right?
So overall, I'll say this again. This is a brilliant move by the PATFO! I don't care about the pick we lost. We're going to win it all the way this season, anyway... and probably our first back-to-back next season, too! Don't worry about the mojo. The mojo is good to me! ;-)
