The Key Variable is Opportunity
I know that there's been a TON of Jeremy Lin coverage, but the author, and the angle he takes, set this one apart. Also, with the Spurs own issue of whether all &erson needs to flourish is time on the court, it's topical for PtR as well.
A very good read.

I’d like to see &erson get some pt but with Manu back I don’t think it is going to happen. I know Lin has been a stud for a week but how about the week former Spur Steve Novak had
That is the Spurs’ reason for getting up in the morning.
Metaphorically speaking, they can sleep when they are dead, and they aren’t dead yet.
One of the reasons Steve Novak is flourishing because he’s getting time on the court to do so. On the Knicks, Steve has become their ‘Matt Bonner’, so to speak.
Secondly, the article’s mention about “success equaling talent, preparation and opportunity” can easily be entwined with the Spurs’ philosophy of ‘pounding the rock’. This is why I love cheering for a guy like Gary Neal; last year’s ‘Jeremy Lin’ of sorts. Like Lin, Gary went undrafted and largely ignored by NBA scouts, even though his college resume was nothing to sneeze at. But Pop and R.C. saw something in the man and gave him an opportunity. An opportunity he took full advantage of and excelled in.
As for Jeremy Lin, I couldn’t be happier for the guy. Really. He’s someone I had hoped the Spurs would give a serious look at in 2010 as a backup to Tony. However, in retrospect, I’m happy he’s had the chance to show he’s more than anyone’s ‘backup’ and is a bonafide starter.
What I love most of all is the watershed moment that Jeremy Lin’s rise to stardom has been for Asian-Americans. Yes. Jeremy isn’t the first to ‘blaze this trail’ in the NBA; that honor goes to Wat Misaka in 1947.
But Jeremy Lin’s success has arrived in the era of social media and 24/7 news. His face is on the cover of newspapers, broadcasts and web pages across the globe. And it’s a face that thousands of kids across the US can point to and be excited about. Now, there’s someone “like them” excelling at a level many believed they would be unable to break into.
now THAT guy could play
"The key to keeping up with the rapidly moving threads is to completely ignore the game.

Nice sig!
But it might need just a bit more editing.

Good article. Going forward is huge and I can’t wait to see how Mike D’Antoni handles the egos and his new found treasure.
He’s a point guard’s coach – superstars be hanged! They didn’t get them the win streak. Lin did.

We will see what happens. LOL.
Lin is balling out of his mind but I hope for his sake that he chills with the turnovers because that could kill his momentum and love fest more than anything as a point guard, especially in NYC. The bad thing about him being in New York is they will tear you down just as quick as they build you up when you screw up or don’t preform well in the big games.
I was rooting for this kid when he roasted John Wall in the summer league so I hope he continues to play well

Yes. Knickerbocker fans have become fiercely protective of Jeremy Lin.

This also reminds me of Green, who got an opportunity this year with the Spurs, and took advantage of it.

Exactly.
In the equation of Spurs playing time, MeanJoe is the reciprocal (or inverse) of &erson.
