AG's Contributing Winners and Losers GSW@SAS
Golden State Warriors showed up last night looking to get a win out of San Antonio. Something they had not done in over a decade. They game playing great. Ellis and Curry were shooting an amazing %. Surprise. I thought RJamesty played better. Blair is for sure higher than I thought. Tiago has to learn how to play different teams in different ways. I have a question for you. Which is more productive: Player A comes in and has a high average for short minutes and Player B plays alot of minutes with team average minutes?
interesting, well the best of both worlds would be what you want, like Manu. The other end of the Spectrum would be Bonner. Plays a decent amount of time but very little contributions.
If you have a player A, this person is clearly a very good role player. They come in, play a few minutes and take care of business while they were on the floor. We saw Manu do this earlierin his career.
If player B comes in a stays at the average contribution level for a starting position, then I would say this player deserves to be a starter. If they can keep an average contriubtion rating for the team, they will not be a first or second option but they would be IMO considered efficient enough to start.
If player B plays a starter’s minutes but contributes less than the team average, I would consider moving that person to a supporting role and see what happens.
clear as mud, right?

Blair has been our second most consistent player, behind Manu. Many people questioned whether or not he could keep this up without Manu and tonight’s game shows that he could.

Although Blair was a scorer, I doubt Spurs would make that comeback if he were in the game instead of Duncan or Splitter. Green for instance, was huge in that end of 3rd and of course, the 4th quarter.

I guess what I’m saying, is there a way we can account for something like that. Obviously, +/- sort of does.

good points -
Blair was the 4th leading scorer on the team
He made all 4 of his free throws
He had 9 rebounds total
but with all of that, you are correct, during the 3rd Quarter, I calculated that Blair had a contribution rating of .23. Not very good at all

I’m still thinking about it, but maybe a weighted point system that’s based on the performance of a quarter. I’m still debating how that is calculated efficiently though…

Sounds good…know of a place to get box score quarters?

Oh snap! I saw your break down by quarter in the Dallas game. It definitely shows the story much clearer.

It helps that he’s developed a report with TJ. Blair needs someone to feed him the ball around the basket to be most effective.
I think it’s less TJ/Blair and more that TJ just knows how to spot the guys. This is why i didn’t get why everyone was hard on TJ and wanted Joseph to take his time. Ford needs time to learn the team and the plays, but once he has more down, he’s going to be dangerous.

He is a true point guard and the first one since Avery. He is not a bull in a china shop and he is going to get better and better. He is all about the team and could care less about a double double.

And he as the WILL to work hard. Always been the smallest guy on the team, etc. Never let it stop him. Love his attitude and effort.
small ball will at least be bigger overall. - grego21
