Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

After the surgery, Neal said he’s not exactly sure where he is physically.

"I can probably answer that question after my first game," Neal said. "All of the working out and practice time is nothing compared to actually playing in the game. Nothing is like game shape and the only way to get into that is by playing in games."

Nail to the rescue!

Now this is great news.

by indiancharlie on Jan 3, 2012 4:47 PM CST reply actions

Perfect timing. The rest will be good for Manu, let the young guns man the 2 for a while.

by i'mwithstupid on Jan 3, 2012 4:49 PM CST reply actions

Well, that was fast. I still think he should play in Austin, but whatever.

Winter is coming

by grego21 on Jan 3, 2012 5:08 PM CST reply actions

Or at least, Green should be in the rotation ahead of him because he’s got to be rusty.

by grego21 on Jan 3, 2012 5:09 PM CST up reply actions

I’d rather he play a few games with the Toros to get in shape, but we will need his 3-pt shooting. So is Neal going to get any burn at PG, or is he strictly the backup SG now?

by CapHill on Jan 3, 2012 5:15 PM CST reply actions

Pop’s rule #3: No player is permitted to play only one position. He thinks it keeps the other team off balance.

by indiancharlie on Jan 3, 2012 5:22 PM CST up reply actions

Ah..Yes.. as he cantalopes down the floor more graceful than Coach B but looking for a shot like TP. Upon hearing a loud scream from the bench, he remembers who he is and gets fouled. The crowd goes crazy while Blair sends a text that reads: U rick man give me 2 and Pop shakes his head asking: why me.

Well, I’d argue that Green’s 3-pt shooting is just as good. Maybe not as quick a release, but it’s just as solid when he has time to shoot. He also brings solid defense, so yeah.

by grego21 on Jan 3, 2012 5:43 PM CST up reply actions

He might handle a little bit, but I think he’ll mostly be put around the arc while a TJ Ford/Parker/Anderson/Green handles it.

Winter is coming

by grego21 on Jan 3, 2012 5:43 PM CST up reply actions

Green and Anderson to have more ball handling duty than Neal? What would make you think this? Green and Anderson are strictly wing players, end of story.

by Manuwar on Jan 3, 2012 6:43 PM CST up reply actions

Neal is pretty much a wing too. He isn’t a PG. I would go against Neal doing a lot since he hasn’t played much. He’s not in game shape. Over time, sure, but his main asset his shot, and they should work on one thing at a time. Scoring should be top priority.

Both Anderson and Green have handled it from time to time, especially Anderson during the preseason.

by grego21 on Jan 3, 2012 7:47 PM CST up reply actions

I agree with you and im going a bit further: Neal SUCKS as a PG. Please no. He has no vision and handling the ball takes his oportunities to score away. He is a deadly shooter, one of the best in the NBA. The spurs should try to maximize that.

by Chilai on Jan 4, 2012 1:16 AM CST up reply actions

With Ford, there’s no need for anyone else to play PG. Anyway, the more Ford has to handle the ball, the quicker he’ll pick up the system.

I’d be shocked if there is a line up in the game that doesn’t involve Tony or TJ, but Pop has done crazier indescribably genius things before.

Welcome back, Nailgun! Hopefully, he is not too rusty.

My knowledge of tetanus isn’t great, but I’m pretty sure rusty nailguns do significantly more damage than other types.

Rusty flaming nailguns, though, rule supreme.

Will argue against trading #45 until I am blue in the face and your eyes and ears are bleeding.

“Rusty Flaming Nailgun” – I love it. Not sure the Warriors are ready for that.

Are rusty flaming nailguns anything like burning metal chickens?

by CapHill on Jan 3, 2012 6:09 PM CST up reply actions

Perhaps the burning metal chickens were made out of nails.

Luckily, the Spurs actually have talent at the ball handling positions and 2 guard positions.

As long as Gary Neal doesn’t step out on the court w/ a Jaren Jackson belly-gut, I think we’re in good shape.
