RJ to the Hornets For Kaman
The New Orleans Hornets are shopping Chris Kaman and are not going anywhere this season. The San Antonio Spurs should be shopping Richard Jefferson. We should send R J to the Hornets for Kaman and keep James Anderson. Trading Richard Jefferson is even better than amnestying him next year. Even though it would be a trade in our division I don't think it would hurt the Spurs. I think keeping James Anderson and giving him a decent shot at developing would be better than letting him go and having to amnesty RJ.

We aren’t going anywhere this season? You are aware we’ve played roughly half our games with 2 of our 7 best players on the sideline, right?
And that’s not even counting the games we’ve sat Duncan out entirely or for the entirety of the fourth quarter.

Why would the Hornets take on a lot more salary over the years in RJ? They already have a younger 3-and-D SF in Ariza. Kaman would be nice, but the Spurs simply don’t have the pieces to get him. At least not without a third team involved.

RJ is making 8.4 mil this year which is the cheapest of his 4 year contract. I do not know if they can amnesty him next year if he is traded, I just don’t have enough info so hopefully someone else will be able to tell. But if Kaman is making $14 mil this year its a decrease for them right now so they can help extend some others and then we’d be done at the end of this season. Not that I think this would happen I’m just saying I think I can see some logic in it if people are just looking to free up some cash sooner rather then later (for the Hornets of course).

If you're going to eat poison, you might as well lick the plate.
Teams can only amnesty players they had under contract before the new CBA was agreed upon. So, no, the Hornets can’t amnesty him. And to make the salaries match, the Spurs would have to include other players. Other than Splitter, I don’t see the Hornets wanting any Spurs player enough to absorb RJ’s contract. Even Tiago might not be enough for them.

Then that answers that. I’ve read another scenario where they’d send RJ, Joseph, and Blair which I don’t disagree with much to be honest. Just to give them a young prospect and a steady starter at center. With what RJ does I think he’d be better off the bench once we get Manu back I’d like to see Leonard slid into RJ’s spot. The real bad issue with that is he doesn’t have the outside shot yet of jefferson but he plays a lot closer to the basket. Better defense and rebounding. Bring Tiago up to starting center, Kaman to backup (or switch to fit taste).

That deal is horrid. As much as I think Blair as a big man isn’t that wise an idea, giving up on Joseph, a PG who has the makings of something interesting, would do well.
Winter is coming
How is that horrid? Horrid would be Manu for Kaman. Joseph may end up being something “interesting”, but he’s hardly a can’t miss prospect.
The main problem is that Kaman isn’t a significantly better defender than Blair. He’s taller, but that’s about it. He also, surprisingly, turns the ball over more.

I would do the deal. Joseph has talent, but imo he does not much potential like a guy like Leonard. I’m still wondering why we took Joseph with a 1st rnd pick tbh.

I actually like Joseph
He does look a bit timid sometimes but he moves the ball well enough. He’s not moving with the same confidence as Ford does. Then again this is his first season

please stop it. RJ, BLAIR AND CORY FOR KAMAN? ARE YOU INSANE?
2 starters and a first round ROOKIE, for a backup center? THe patfo will NEVER do that deal so stop it.
I wouldnt even trade RJ for Kaman straight up, because Jefferson fills a need. Leonard cant play 48 minutes a night. He cant shoot, and even if he could we are not going to be succesful playing a rookie 48 minutes a night.

I think trading RJ would affect the spurs … The spurs shoot a lot of 3s …
And it took 2 years to RJ to learn how to shoot 3 from the corner …
He average 0. 4533 3FG%
Thats the negative
Remember the 1 quarter when … Parker cant score, Duncan cant score we are down by 10 … and suddenly RJ shoot a 3, well
The positive: The spurs need size and kaman is a 7.0 footer. Not a great defender, but maybe he need a great coach and a great system
At 30, it’s unlikely he’s going to learn to be a better defender. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it wouldn’t help us this year which would be the point of that trade.

Neither side would do the trade. Its ridiculous. Why would the league-owned Hornets take on more salary long term for a guy who wouldnt even start for them and is 30 years old?
Why would the spurs trade a starter and our only SF who can shoot for a backup big?
Kaman is nice, but he is not the answer. You trade for him if the price is cheap, but at 14mill there isnt any way we can get him on the cheap (unless other teams are involved)
