Pounding the Rock in Minneapolis

My wife and I attended our first Spurs game tonight. Despite the loss, we had a great time seeing our favorite players up close and watching a hard-fought game.

I've been a fan since the mid-90's. In order to mark this momentous occasion, my wife, Nikki Shenk, designed a poster that borrows heavily from the PtR logo, but also employs some our own ideas. We hope you'll enjoy it (click the link to view the poster).

Tiago signed the poster before the game, but the highlight of the night came for us after the game was long over. Upon exiting Target Center, we asked some Wolves fans where the away team's buses are parked. We found them quickly and waited with 15-20 other fans in the chill Minnesota air hoping that some of the players, or even better, Gregg Popovich, would notice our poster and possibly sign it before boarding the bus. Among those in the small crowd were four French girls who draped a French flag over the barrier, which separated us from the exiting Spurs' personnel.

Most of the players and assistant coaches came and went with barely a nod to those of us gathered. A security guard told us the guys probably couldn't stand the cold weather and didn't want to waste any time outside. Finally, Coach Popovich walked out (I'd forgotten how tall he is), and after waving to all of the fans, looked our direction. He visibly read our poster and then broke out into a grin and pointed approvingly at us before hopping on the bus. No one else after that offered more than a wave - not even a French flag held by his countrywomen could persuade Tony to linger - but we drove home plenty satisfied. We can't wait to attend more games. Hopefully we can fill our poster up with Spurs' signatures over the coming years.

You should come for a game in warmer weather in SA. I could understand the guys quickly wanting to get on the bus after a tuff loss and freezing temps.

Do or do not! There is no try!
