Toros game is currently on, available on futurecast. Near the end of the game, they’re up by 28 points. Can’t find a boxscore at this point. Noticed that Da’Sean Butler scored 21 points in last Wednesday’s game.
I missed the game again, what the hell happened? I was expecting their guards to struggle against Leonard and Green’s defense… Didn’t seem to happen.
Also, I’m getting alarmed at Parker’s minutes. All the starters except him have ~20 minutes, Parker had 40.
shit happens.
Methinks the Spurs won’t be picking up James Anderson’s option. Which is a shame. I have no recollection of any game happening tonight.
The longest, brightest day is followed by the darkest night.

Perhaps. I don’t know. Pop rode Green and RJ a lot with Neal as the other guy and a little bit of CJ. Leonard has seen not as much time this game either. Pop seemed to just stay with one group, which worked, for the most part.
I think it’s too soon to give up on JA, unless there is something behind the scenes.

The Cavaliers prepared for the game as if Rose would play. His name was the first listed on the dry-erase board in Cleveland’s locker room with the word “aggressive” scribbled next to it.
But when word came from down the hallway before tipoff that Rose would sit, Scott let out a sigh of relief.
“My prayers were answered,” he cracked.
Not all of them.
That bit of information epitomizes everything that’s wrong with the personnel and philosophy of these Cavs. The road back to respectability for Cleveland is not going to go through Byron Scott.
"Fuck this shit. Is this fucking season over yet? It is? Jesus H. motherfucking Christ on a stick! Get Nick Holt on the phone NOW! Georgie stripped Ellis and got the and one with 1.8 seconds. 9/14 points in the 4th quarter. Very clutch, although he got away with the kick deflection. Good for him though. Indy is likely going to win this.

Yes that is obvious. The thing is….I think Love has already reached his ceiling (which is incredibly high, so no shame in that) while Griffin has a lot more potential. We will se who the best of the two is in 3 or 4 years, nevertheless both are great and unique
"Kevin Garnett once described defending Tim Duncan as "trying to guard a tree"
Exactly. That’s the thing. Love has the advantage of the realized skill set. Blake, if done right could surpass that.
Winter is coming
I think defense is what will define who is the better of the two down the road. Kevin Love will never be a great defender, he doesnt have the speed, mobility or jumping ability. Griffin has a chance to be a great one, even if his wingspan is not that great.
"Kevin Garnett once described defending Tim Duncan as "trying to guard a tree"
And if Blake can develop a back to the basket type of game, he can make his teammates better by drawing the double teams.
Winter is coming
He already has a very nice passing ability. I think next season with a summer to workout he could take a big step as a player.
"Kevin Garnett once described defending Tim Duncan as "trying to guard a tree"
Yes, he has the chance. The thing is he’s already a star so there might be pressure just to focus is game on being a highlight film jumper, taking the Amare route..

The Knicks are repeating the same mistakes Isaiah did. Getting a bunch of scorers and players withouth thinking about chemistry.
"Kevin Garnett once described defending Tim Duncan as "trying to guard a tree"
from what I read, since the Walsh left (who Isiah helped push out), Isiah has been calling the shots from behind the scenes. he was a big part of the Melo deals from what I read, since he’s friends with dolan.
Winter is coming
yeah, that doesnt surprise me. Even if they get Nash next season, they are average at best, no better than the Atlanta Hawks
"Kevin Garnett once described defending Tim Duncan as "trying to guard a tree"

He’s definitely better than Amare even at this point. he can at least rebound, even though he doesn’t block out well.
he’s a franchise player. heck, I’d take Love over Amare each and every day.
Blake does seem to care. Question above all is does Sterling..? probably not.

"Kevin Garnett once described defending Tim Duncan as "trying to guard a tree"
I wasn’t being serious with that statement. Barkley was arguing with Kenny and Shaq about Love being better than Griffin right now on Thursday, and they settled on seeing the outcome of tonight’s game. That being said, I agree with everything you’ve said.

Really nice. They had Williams curling off the triple screen (or whatever that was) and then had the other two players basically pin down DeAndre Jordan, which allowed Love to pop out to the three point line and nail that three. DeAndre had to stay back to protect against the lob, one of the defenders had to switch out onto Love.

To be fair, I think coaches just like players have strengths and weakneses. For example, Mike Brown has always been an excellent defensive coach, but he sucks on the other side.
IN the case of DelNegro, I like the way he develops his players and how he sets clear roles for each of them. Sadly, his in-game coaching is as awful as it gets.
"Kevin Garnett once described defending Tim Duncan as "trying to guard a tree"
He’s a players coach. He’s similar to Mike Brown in that sense. Both are solid assistants, but not head coaches.
With Brown, if you let someone take over the offense, you might be able to get away with it.
It’s like PJ. Solid with the Spurs, but couldn’t handle a team by himself.

I remember when the cavs (with a very limited personel beyond Lebron) got an offensive assitant coach to take reins of the offense and suddenly the cavs became a juggernaut. I wonder why most Front Offices fail to see the obvious limitations of their coaches.

Love should make an instructional video on how to rebound when he retires. He is 6’8, with an average wingspan and a not so incredible athleticism and he dominates the boards like Howard.

It’s all about angles, positioning and knowing how to transfer force. It’s also about tape studying and understanding where the rebound is likely to fall.

Barkley and Moses Malone did the same. So many of the great rebounders get their rebounds way below the rim
Blair has the bulk to do it. If only he didn’t think he could out jump/out reach the opposing players.
Winter is coming
You forgot about Dennis Rodman. THe dude had the same height as Manu and averaged several seasons of +15 rebounds. What a beast. One of my favorite players ever.
"Kevin Garnett once described defending Tim Duncan as "trying to guard a tree"
He was an athletic freak. He would get on a bike and ride for hours after games. His conditioning was just something else. I don’t think he fits that mold that I was thinking about, undersized and strictly positioning rebounding. He did get a ton from boxing out and position but I remember him flying from one side of the key to the other to snatch rebounds. Very much superior to the way Love, Wes, Barkley did it as far as strictly rebounding skill goes.
I agree with his conditioning, but he still was a monster rebounder even at an advanced age. He combined positioning, boxing out and outstanding atlheticism. He was VERY undersized.

So guys, what the hell happened? I watched the end of this game to see the Spurs blow a six point lead with 3 minutes left. Kings didn’t run any offense at all on their last shots. All they did was dribble dribble dribble shoot, swish. Sigh
Spurs missed a bunch of open shots. Kings made some shots. It was a really weird game. Spurs D held pretty well for the game. The offense was dreadful though. If a few more shots fall, Spurs win this.
Winter is coming
There were several positive things in this sad game:
1) After playing entertaining basketball last season, the Spurs are back to their ugly playing ways
2) Tiago Splitter looked very good again. Tiago (14), RJ(12) and Bonner (+11) were 3 Spurs with positive +/-.
3) When Matt Bonner left the game the Spurs were up 6 (their biggest lead at 84-78). Unfortunately, it left just enough time for the Kings to take the game back.
Both teams played hard
They are back to ugly, but the defense has improved. The problem is if the offense gets this bad, even good defense won’t stop every shot. Hopefully they’ll mix more of the offense in. It’s tough with Parker as the only real play maker though.
When Neal came in, Spurs lost momentum, funny as it is. Bonner was actually doing pretty well. he had a stupid foul which was the one that took him out, but he helped rebound in there. Once they got smaller, with Neal, it became too small ball, much like last year.
Winter is coming
It’s tough with Parker as the only real play maker though.
You’re absolutely right. While the offense is definitely expected to take a significant hit with our best player (The Manu) out, the reason why it’s been so unexpectedly putrid at times is because Ford is also out. Ford’s orchestration of the offense, even when Manu and Parker have both been on the bench was a pleasant surprise and perhaps even today overlooked. He simply kept the offense humming in a situation where a RoMaJu, Ooey Pooey, heck, even The JV would have us cringing. And while he will never be regarded as a defensive player, he has shown this season that he’s not afraid to get active and pesky on that end. This resulted in him often being a net positive for the team to say the least, and to be a guy to spell out TP for a few minutes to say the worst. Obviously if Manu were healthy we wouldn’t do to bad, but the fact that 2 of our 3 play makers are gone is really hurting our O.
In other news, Cory Joseph didn’t have too good a game tonight with a net plus/minus of -11 in around 6 minutes.
Sorry for the rant.

He is. I didn’t think he should come in for Bonner during the last stretch. I thought Bonner functioned fairly well.
Neal doesn’t have his legs. This is why Joseph gets some burn, but the team has issues without Parker. But then Spurs are running him into the ground if they can’t spell him from time to time.
They should feed the post with Splitter as much as possible to reduce some of Parker’s running around.
It does seem like they are focusing on Green to be the next pick and roll guy though..
Winter is coming
