Tony Parker lay up that touched the glass and then was hit by one of the rockets players, the other basket interference while the ball was above the cylinder from a Leonard shot near the rim, and I still don’t see how they believed Green had possession of the ball near our basket while their shot clock was winding down. That’s just off the top of my head. But, you can’t blame the rockets fans, most fans blame the refs, it’s just the nature of basketball unfortunately.

by Fred Silva on Jan 11, 2012 10:57 PM CST reply actions

Pop is nothing if not hard headed. A game last year comes to mind, Neal was red hot. The Spurs needed a 3 pointer to win the game against Porland. Ginobili was barely coming back from injury and was cold. What does he do? He subs the red hot Neal for Gino, Gino misses the shot, Spurs lose.

Pop loves challenges.

In his defense, I think it’s in his best interest to try to get Anderson back to playing well though. Anderson has shown it in the past.

Winter is coming

by grego21 on Jan 12, 2012 1:23 AM CST up reply actions

I havent seen him play much, but I have yet to be impressed with any aspect of Andersons game, except when he occasionally gets hot from three point land. I certainly hope he is capable of playing as well as you say, at least on a semi-consistent basis.

A man gets the eye of a Tiger, but a Tiger gets the eye of a Manu.

by alamobro on Jan 12, 2012 1:39 AM CST up reply actions

I’ve seen enough of Anderson to see it. It’s just gotten messier without Manu and now Ford. I think for JA, it’s a confidence thing since he looked good even though he didn’t hit his shot earlier in the season. I think he misses Manu a lot.

Green is pretty young too but has more experience. And Leonard is a defense first type of player. He’s also bigger so that gives him advantages that are easy to utilize.

RJ killing it is sort of throwing a wrench in everything. I don’t think they should amnesty him any longer. I know he and Kawhi spent a lot of the summer together. The competition appears to be driving him among other factors.

Winter is coming

by grego21 on Jan 12, 2012 2:01 AM CST up reply actions

JA looked good last year before his injury, I’ll give you that. But this year he has looked awful. He doesn’t look like a basketball player. Did you see that fast break last night? It would be best described as uncoordinated. He looks uncomfortable and slow every time he dribbles. That’s a bad sign. There is nothing fluid about his game right now. I think we should throw him to the D-League so he can get 30+ minutes a game and hopefully figure it out.

"GINOBILI!" -- Sir Charles

by Fred Silva on Jan 12, 2012 9:14 AM CST up reply actions

I like the D-League idea. I thought he looked fluid in the preseason games and the first few before LWM. But without practices, I can see where it is all going to crap. The more I think about it, the less I want Joseph around the team, unless he’s actually going to play.

Winter is coming

by grego21 on Jan 12, 2012 12:15 PM CST up reply actions

Some extra thoughts… Lack of camp is probably hurting JA along with practice. Pop’s been a little bit different this year. Pop has kept a short leash trying to go with the hot hand. That seems to be the biggest thing at play now.

I’m fine if they do. That out of bounce (where the shot clock should have run out before the game clock) play near the end of the 4th quarter and goal tending are two things that Houston got away with. So it balanced itself out.

Yep. Good call. I was not sure how I’d feel about that. But if Kawhi is going to play 35+ minutes, then it really doesn’ t matter if he starts or comes off the bench. Even with Anderson struggling at the moment (I think he’ll come back strong), they are still strongest at the wings. Both RJ and Leonard is nice.

I also liked Pop’s big small ball in the 4th: TD/TP/Green/RJ/KL (Green was later taken out for Splits)

Some numbers

6 – Rebounds for Kawhi Leonard in the fourth quarter and overtime. He grabbed four in overtime.

11 — Consecutive possessions that Houston scored during San Antonio’s defensive struggles late in the first quarter.

45:18 – Parker’s playing time — most in a game since he played 47:44 on Dec. 27, 2008.

65.0 — Houston’s shooting percentage in the first quarter.
