The Great Britain under 20 squad has played 4 more warm up games since I last reported how our young Spur in training was doing. He has been the main cog in almost all of his teams wins especially offensively. I will give a tad bit more info after the jump
The GB under 20 squad made final cuts after my last FanPost and of course our guy made the team. His squad then went on to play Denmark twice in a few days span. The first game Richards wasn't much of a factor but his team played well and pulled out a victory without getting much from him. Richards was determined to not have another game where he didn't factor much into the outcome and that was apparent by his tweet a mere half an hour before the game. Richards simply tweeted the numbers "40". Richards fell short of the number he tweeted, but only by 2 points as he dominated the game and helped his team when a way closer game than there first game against Denmark. His stat line was 38 points 7rebounds 3 steals while shooting 12/23 and 13 of 16 from the line.
The last 4 games weren't all good news team wise for our 7 footer though. His team lost there last two match-ups to Belgium but once again it wasn't because of him not performing on the offensive end. In there first loss to Belgium the team got beat really badly due to turnovers and poor defense, Richards still finished the game as the teams leading scorer with 18 points and only 4 boards. There second game versus Belgium was a much closer affair, with GB actually out rebounding there opponent but it still resulted in a loss. Richards had 25 points 8 rebounds while shooting 10 for 21 from the field and an ugly 4 of 9 from the line.
GB U20 had there unbeaten streak ended but still finished 6 and 2 right before the actual real games start.
Looking at the stat lines and reading up on our guy has been a pretty nice surprise. The big thing that is kind of jumping out to me is his rebound total and the fact that the GB team which is bigger than some of the teams they've faced is not killing teams on the boards. I like that he is playing well against guys he should but next week it is going to be official start and I hope he can keep this up will helping his team win some meaningful games.
