Hello, and welcome to PtR. It’s always good to see new users finally stop lurking and start commenting.

…..I’m not new? I don’t know if you’re joking or legit think I’m new lol

Come on, you know better than that. Were you really away for that long?

I haven’t been here since like Game 1 of the playoffs. Maybe Game 2 I can’t remember. I’ve only very rarely stopped in since then and I’m sure my ridiculous comments are swallowed up in the relevant/witty/intelligent/not-Sunkist comments. It’s been long enough and my contributions minor enough that i could honestly see my name being lost within the PtR annals of time.

Really? I am pretty surprised. All the hate Shaq doled out to Robinson wouldn’t lead me to believe he thought this.
I posted on the fair well to Shaq that I think he did what he did to David to hype his self up to play David tough. I think he truly respected David a lot because of the way he carried himself on and off the court and that is kinda hard to go against. It’s hard trying to get into somebodies head or get hyped up to play a genuinely nice dude. David is such a nice dude and never a big trash talker and was one of the best centers at the time when Shaq was coming up.
One thing i can do...................is FINGER ROLL.

really???
the autograph and the scoring title and the la/spurs playing so much in the end was all it was.
i know when they were playing shaq said alot but shaq has said nothing but good things about david since he retired.
my favored was when he was interviewed for david going into the hof and shaq said he saw him that weekend with his family and approached him and said “thank you so much with out you there would be no me”…the interviewed said something like even after all the bad blood and shaq laughed saying “that when we played its not like i see him in a restaurant now and go over and flip his table over and start a fight”
ever since they both retired ive only ever heard shaq say good things about david and hakeem, its clear he looked up to them as the best when he came into the league and thats where some of the rivalry came from
Who was his fifth center in the top 5, himself or someone else like Jabbar? Another of the greats was George Mikan, and Shaq gained some respect by paying for Mikan’s funeral expenses.
Where’s Duncan? Hater!!!
Kidding….

But, but, but Timmy is a power forward.

Even when joking, the powers in the universe did not let me use the C word with Timmy. Amazing…

I honestly think that’s what happened with the poll results on my rosterbation thread. Too many people thought Timmy was a PF. I thought I had made the case for PF being the biggest need.
Time to build a new dynasty from the ashes of the old one.
But Timmy is both a PF and a C. The Spurs can even get by with him playing both positions and having only three other players on the court with him. Of course, that might be an exaggeration, but who cares, it’s Timmy we’re talking about.

I guess if you only list five then the all have to be “among the top five.”
I’d add a sixth: Kareem.
All these GIFs are breaking my browser.

He should already be in that list to be honest. Kareem is easily in the top 5 big men.

When I glanced over the article I didn’t see it, but Gino20 has said that Shaq ranked Kareem as #1 while not including himself in the list. While in recent years Tim is as much a center as a pf, I’d think in ranking the best centers ever Shaq simply thought of Tim in his prime years as a PF.
OK, I know Tim is a better PF then Robinson. But which of the two is a better center?
"Hey if repeating as champions were that easy even the Spurs could do it." olf
Timmy is the better player. The margin isn’t that vast, but Timmy really is one of the greats even though he’ll likely always go underrated due to his style of game.

A bit hard to pick between, but though Timmy was the better player the years they both played together I’m not so sure he was the better player. David’s best years he’d average around a 30 PER and around 27 ppg. Tim’s best were about a 27 PER and 23 ppg. David’s career ORtg is 20 points better than his DRtg, Tim’s is 12, David gave up a few prime years to the Navy, or Tim would still be chasing his career points and rebounds numbers. Close call, but I’d at least give the nod to David for the center position.
Tim didn’t have to score as much, but could if he needed to. I don’t think the point part is as big a deal. I think Tim was better at making his team better. His offensive game was more conducive to being a PG at the post up position with 4 down.
Timmy wasn’t all numbers, but his game really touched many facets of the game. Whereas Manu does a lot of stuff not in the box score, but you see it when you watch a game, Duncan’s are a lot more subtle (like a Bruce Bowen).
Why Timmy is better isn’t necessarily in the stat sheet, but for Spurs fans, you don’t need the stats as much because most of us have seen their resume.
I do think you can also argue that if David had more of a team his numbers might balance out, but he was asked to do everything. Howard is doing that in Orlando these days, but those numbers would be more balanced if he were on say, the Bulls.
I think Timmy has the more complete game (follows the path of Hakeem) even though Drob, was a freak on the court. Dwight Howard comes closest to that, but lacks some of the area, especially offensively.

How many years did David stay in college/Navy? Because Tim used up all 4 years of college eligibility.
