It's been 3 days since the season ended and I thought I was ok. Until I watched a few sequences in game 6 in which the Spurs didn't get the call from the ref. Now, before anyone jumps on me, I want to be on record saying that the Grizzlies deserved to win that series and they did a number on us with their physical defensive style. However, the sequence that sticks in my mind the most is when Duncan came rolling down the lane after freezing Gasol. He rose up for the
dunk layup and gets absolutely clobbered by Battier and no foul was called.
Now, why am I bringing this up? Because after the thrilling game 5 victory (and throughout the series) I noticed that several prominent fans of the NBA, cough Bill Simmons cough, kept pointing out the free throw discrepancy and how it favored the Spurs. "Look", he essentially would say, "The Spurs can't even win when the refs are on their side! 10 million Suns fans just queued up Nelson's laugh." And his frat boy audience would laugh appropriately as if it was the newest Family guy episode.
So what does this have to do with anything? Well, (again, no discredit meant to the Grizzlies) the Celtics got the raw end of the deal in their game on Sunday. Paul Pierce got ejected for being the punk he is, and suddenly bloggers all over the netosphere are up in arms about how BAD the refs are. "Oh noes!" They cry. "The Celtics aren't getting the wussy cream filled treatment that they deserve because Bill Russell won a championship so many years ago!" And I just laugh at their "misfortune". So glad that I'm a fan of the team that says this
Questionable calls from Spurs-Grizzles game 6 (via refcalls)
Then I shall sit here and make delicious chocolate ice cream using their salty tears, watching the Grizzlies play for the NBA championship.
