LA Times: Parker to Lakers?
"San Antonio — Tony Parker makes a lot of money for someone with a backup the Spurs love (George Hill), could be available although the Spurs would have to get back a real prize — Pau Gasol? — to deal with the Lakers."

Did you watch the Lakers/Mavs series? This is the wrong Gasol to trade for. Even though Mark doesn’t produce at as high of a level as Pau, he’s a better defender and Pau is soft like a kitten.

Pau had probably his worst post-season ever, among the wreckage of a dying Lakers team. The quotes I read from him were humble and acknowledging a need to work over the summer. Besides, Marc’s not going anywhere, and this is actually a plausible deal. If your issue is that a Splitter+Gasol tandem is too European soft, we can talk about that, but I don’t know where else we can get an All-NBA-level big man on short notice.

He’s just too inconsistent. His averages or nice, but at his age there’s no excuse for him ever having a game where he plays 20+ minutes and doesn’t grab 10+ rebounds. He’s a good player, I’ve got no problem admitting that. But you know how people always say that if you foul someone hard a few times they quit going to the basket? Pau is the perfect example of that. Nothing to do with European, and I’m sure they’d be a good combo, I just would prefer someone with more mental toughness- you know, like Tony, who gets knocked on his ass everytime he goes to the paint and gets up and does it again.

One of Pau’s problems was that he was overly relied on at the beginning of the season. That wore him down.

i would too. maybe. might want a pick too. gasol is in the downward arc of his career now, but i think playing a gasol-splitter big man lineup actually could be legitimately dominant. pau plays much like timmy used to, and he’d fit in with manu/hill the same sort of way. it could work.

well parker is in the downward arc too…pgs who don’t shoot 3s and rely on speed go down hill fast after 30. Im not saying either are done by any means but I am saying they are kinda in the same place so it shouldn’t be a deterrent.
would still need to get soem kinda ball handler though…unless hill or neal suddenly get alot better. this coudl be addressed in a different way though i would do this deal
This is just some LA writer trying to stir the pot a bit. No way the Lakers do that trade, but if they offered, I’d take it.
Time to build a new dynasty from the ashes of the old one.
The Lakers would be unbeatable if we do that trade.

They aren’t winning carp without Gasol. I don’t care how long Bynum has miraculously managed to stay healthy, Gasol was the #2 bigman in the league for those 2 titles.
A man gets the eye of a Tiger, but a Tiger gets the eye of a Manu.
I agree, Gasol was probably their most important player during that stretch. But getting TP would be a huge improvement for them at the pg. TBH I think it would be a somewhat good trade for both teams because I dont think Gasol want to be a laker anymore. I do the trade but I think we need get more from LA.

I don’t know about all that, but I don’t think the Spurs make that trade…nor do I think would the Lakers.
While complacency costs, perseverance pays
No way, neither team wants to be the one to help the other by giving them a piece they need. The only way Gasol or Parker are traded to a western conference team is if they go to a non-contender.
If either gets traded it is most likely to be to an eastern conference team.

I’ve spent most of my time sobbing and staring out the window. But I’m feeling stronger and able to venture out for brief periods of time now.
Yesterday I was chatting with some friends about how about strange it is to be out of the playoffs with the conference finals just getting started. And then I have to tune in and see f’ing Nowitski & Kidd & Terry and those f’ing young Thunders.
Frick! It’s still too painful to think about.

Damn big-market media thinks their teams can just get whoever they want. It’s true in too many cases, but the New York media was certain for awhile that they’d get TP for David Lee.
"I know everthang they is to know about the shrimpin bidness."
If I saw TP in a Faker jersey I would barf in my mouth a little every time I saw him. Same thing seeing Pau Gasol in a Spur jersey. I do agree if they did do this trade we would need a first round pick with Gasol.
That’s interesting. I would think he is about the least offensive Laker to Spurs fans, no? You might not think he is very good but that’s different.

Meh…IMO Ron Artest and Steve Blake would be less offensive.

I just hate any thing Faker, and yea I don’t think he is very good. IMO Gasol might be starting on the downward part of his career. TP is still in his prime and will be for at least another three years. Every one thinks that the Fakers got the better end of the Gasol trade and now it looks like the Griz did. IMO the Fakers would get the better of this deal unless we get some picks and a backup PG.
the more i look at this the more i think this is a silly trade idea because neither side would do this.
and by the way anyone who thinks the lakers didn’t get the better end of the gasol sway is silly. the trade maybe doesn’t look as bad now but the lakers went to 3 finals and one 2 titels that they wqould not have gotten if they didn’t make the trade. pau also is still better then his brother (i’ve always liked mark but as of this moment pau is still better even if mark is closing the gap) right now today pau is still the better player and was definitely worlds better at the time
lakers don’t do this for a few reasons
1 there biggest strength the last few year (you know when they were the best team) has been their front line. Pau has been the best of the lamar/pau/andrwe combo and the most consistent. if you want to trash him for having a bad playoffs this year thats fair but also keep in mind 1 this was an aberation (he usually is much better) 2 the whole team was falling apart this year (he wasnt the only problem and they were much worse off then anyone noticed at first) and he was probably the lakers best player in the finals last year even though kobe won the mvp
2 unlike many SA fans i dont think tony is that much better if at all then pau talent wise. if thats the case why would la trade small for big. a quality big is almost always hard to get in this day and age so all things being equal pau has more value there. even if tony is a little better the over all quality/quantity at their positions makes it a wash
3 pau is the perfect fit for kobe. he doesn’t care if kobe takes over and almost never complains about his role. even when he does its very mild. not that tony would cause trouble but he does need the ball in his hands all the time to be effective
4 finesse big men (pau is30) age much better then speed first pg (tony is 29).
spurs also have a bunch or reasons not to do this (although i would)
1 loyalty…i don’t see the spurs trading tony unless we are blown away by a deal (why would another team come to us with one) or tony demands out (i dont see this happening either) i would make this trade straight up but the spurs fo wouldn’t…Juts not enough for them to ship parker without another reason
2 we always hear about the spurs system being hard to get use to…everyone does better in the 2nd year. this would be a trade with at least the intention of keeping the window open. if it takes pau a year to get the system, thats one more year on timmy and manu that doesn’t really help us
3 huge hole at ball handler role. with tony gone and nothing coming back in the trade we have manu as the only real ball handler. all year long you could see how bad the offense ran and the scoring drought and sometimes just ugly looking offense run when neither tony or manu was out there. if this trade were to happen the mle and draft and everything else the spurs could do would have to focus on pg or ball handlers (SG/SF possible) and it still looks like it would be a weakness.
