Meh. Keith Benson also tweeted that he worked out for the Spurs. Good to see that the FO is already very busy.
Time to build a new dynasty from the ashes of the old one.
Benson!
yeah he would be a great pick for us. He needs to add a little bit of muscle but he blocks shots and rebounds. Exactly what we need

He definitely would be a nice addition. He fits the Spurs personality.

I love Matt Howard, don’t know how he would fit the Spurs in anything other than personality wise though, so please let me know what else he can bring.

He has hustle. He has a pretty stable jump shot. He’s a pretty good defender. Hes not a great player, but he’s good at a lot of things. Taking into account where Spurs would draft, he’s a pretty good pick up for that area.
Spurs need to focus on the 3-5 positions and you take the best available (that isn’t a 2 guard) when you are picking near the bottom.

Would he even be drafted or just a training camp invitation (assuming there’s a training camp)? DraftExpress has him rated as #92 in their top 100, and there’s only 60 draft choices. It doesn’t seem he would be expected to play at SF, and is undersized for a PF at no more than 6’8".
6’8 is actually pretty close to average for PF’s- it would depend on his weight.

He’s listed at 235. Seems like if 6’8" were the average, Blair wouldn’t have as many matchup problems. I’d think 6’8" isn’t much help vs. Pau Gasol, Kevin Garnett, Lamarcus Aldridge, Dirk Nowitizki, etc., etc.
That’s 4 of 30 teams. There isn’t much of an “etc etc” after those guys.
The average is about 6’9, depending on how tall certain players are listed.
Utah (Millsap=6’8), Houston (Scola=6’9), Milwaukee (Mbah a Moute=6’8), Memphis (Randolph= 6’9), New Orleans (David West= 6’9), Gerald Wallace started for Charlotte (and played major minutes there for Portland) at PF and he’s 6’7. I wouldn’t say playing PF at 6’8 is a hindrance, as long as they’ve been playing that position most of their careers. The problem is when you’ve got a 6’8 guy that’s played SF his whole life trying to become a big man after leaving college. Of course it works the other way too. Jeff Green is 6’9 and he started at PF for OKC, and Glen Davis is 6’9.
Basically, the difference between 6’8 and 6’9 is negligible, IMO- especially when you’re talking about contesting 7’ shooting long jump shots. It’s not possible no matter how big you are. Zach Randolph has destroyed everyone from McDyess to Duncan to Perkins and Ibaka- all of whom are excellent defenders and have a size advantage over Randolph.

Villanueva, McRoberts, Ilyasova, Drew Gooden, Horford, Tyrus Thomas, Chris Bosh, Amare, Blatche, Rashard Lewis, Derrick Favors, Beasley: all seem to be 6’10" or taller PF’s (at times Centers, at times SF’s). Matt Howard is said to be “standing somewhere between 6-7 and 6-8, with a narrow frame”. Davis, Randolph and Blair have “big bones”. Personally I haven’t seem Howard play. If he is not able to cover SF, which doesn’t seem the case per the scouting report, he would seem to be overmatched at PF if he is more like 6’7". I imagine it is fine to give him a camp invite, and perhaps even a bottom of the 2nd round pick. It just doesn’t seem he is any taller than Blair, and so would seem to have matchup problems as a big.
Nah
Matt Howard can’t guard anybody in the NBA. Offensively I liked what he did at Butler besides his championship stinker. He is to small to play power forward I fear in the NBA

I want the other Howard.

I don’t know if it’s just coincidence, but since going to this link on twitter I can’t get to anything on nba.com or spurs.com. It reverts to http://www.nba.com/#!/spurs/ even when I remove the #! and winds up at Twitter. Is NBA down, or is this just a problem with my computer?
