Money ain’t the problem. The NBA’s got too many teams. Charlotte?, Milwaukee? T-Wolves? Sacto?
. . .who won’t be paying a luxury tax this season? The San Antonio Spurs, who have the best record in the league. Same with the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat, two of the top three teams in the Eastern Conference. It’s not just about money.
Seems a bit of a stretch to have the Lakers writing Luxury Tax checks to teams like the Spurs (while they were winning championships and using the money to pay down the AT & T Center mortgage and voted best return on investment sports franchise by Forbes or Fortune) – or to teams like the Clippers (who play in the same frickin building and whose owner just pockets the checks).
"Hey if repeating as champions were that easy even the Spurs could do it." olf
Like I told a friend of mine recently, if not for the Spurs, the Admiral, Duncan and company, I would have probably stopped following the NBA in the post Jordan era.
I bet many small-market fans will be rooting for the Spurs in the playoffs. If it weren’t for us, they couldn’t even hope to win a championship some day.
