Are the Spurs the best TEAM in the NBA

What makes a fan choose a team to follow?  For some people they choose their favorite star and follow that team.  For others it their local team.  Other people choose to follow the teams that their dad cheered for when they were a kid.  My favorite reason a fan chooses a team, and also the reason I choose to follow the Spurs, is because that team plays the game the right way.  The Spurs are know for being class a class organization that makes wise decisions in all aspects of the organization from scouting, drafting, all the way to the final product on the court.  They choose to bring in guys that are about winning and not about self.  They are the very definition of team: a group of people working together to pursue a common goal.  The question I want to ask you is are they the best team in the NBA currently?

If we look at the individuals that are on our roster there are some very good players but we don't have a single individual who averages over 20 points a game.  Other teams get the hype because they might have more high profile players.  The Spurs have been incorrectly labeled as a boring team to watch.  (personally I'd rather watch our well balanced offense any day than watch one or two guys force up contested shots all night and get the occasional fancy dunk here and there ie: Lakers, Miami, New York Knicks....)  We play a brand of basketball that is very team oriented and focuses on making the right passes and shots on offense and rotations on defense.  Did you know that this year the Spurs are 42-1 this year when we have 22 assists or more.  That means when we play as a team we are pretty much unbeatable.  During our six game skid we were not moving the ball as well, and our assist number were down.  We also have had so many games this season where the scoring has been spread amongst everyone that we have the new SSIDD (seven scorers in double digits) term. It even seems as though our players enjoy each other off the court.  Manu and Tony are always posting pictures of eating out with teammates online and pretty much the entire team has participated in the freaking awesome Coach B series that Bonner created.  As a parent and coach trying to teach my kids the right way to play the game it is great to have one of the most successful franchises in the last decade right there doing things the right way.  We may not have all the hype but we have the record, the rings, and a good TEAM to cheer for.  Substance over style any day of the week.
